We had reported earlier that the Delhi Government had planned to delist the Tata Nexon from the list of electric vehicles on which it offers subsidies to the customers. This happened following a complaint by the EV owner. This complaint stated that he was not able to get the range from his car that the manufacturer had claimed. Tata Motors, in response to this complaint, said that the range of an electric car is dependent on various factors including driving mannerisms, AC usage, etc. Additionally, the ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India) is the independent body that tests all the mass production vehicles on various parameters including range and mileage. The figure of 312 km for Tata Nexon has been certified by ARAI. This is tested in the standard cycles and the real-world figures can still vary a bit. Let us take a look at what Delhi High Court had to say in the matter.

Delhi Government’s decision to delist the Nexon EV
The case was presented before the Delhi High Court after the Delhi Government decided to delist the Tata Nexon EV from the list of electric vehicles on which the Government offered subsidies. The Government of Delhi, in particular, has been very active in promoting the mass adoption of EVs in the capital. For that, there have been a ton of subsidies in addition to developing modern infrastructure around the charging aspect of electrification. Public transport which includes buses, commercial taxis and three-wheelers has already been deployed by the government for a long time.

So, when Delhi Government received the complaint from the owner, it had to make sure that the range anxiety issue, which is already prevalent in the mindset of potential customers, is not further strengthened. Therefore, it decided to assure the customers that if any car manufacturer is found misleading the people with incorrect information regarding the range of the EV, it will take strict action against it. This was the reason for the Government delisting the Nexon EV from the list. But now that the Delhi High Court has put a stay on the Government delisting the Nexon EV, Tata Motors will try to mitigate the matter as quickly as possible.

Delhi High Court
The Delhi High Court had decided to give Delhi Government some time to file a counter affidavit in this matter. Until then, the Tata Nexon EV will be eligible for subsidies by the Government. This has come as a great relief to the carmaker, considering the Nexon EV is the highest-selling EV in the country by a large margin. It will be interesting to see if this affects the sales of the EV in the coming months or will the Nexon EV continue to rule the charts, as it always has.

Tata Nexon EV
The Nexon EV has a decent battery pack of 30.20 kWh capacity and a range of 312 km. The power that the EV makes is an impressive 129hp and 245Nm torque. Regular charging from 10% to 90% takes around 8.5 hours, whereas 0-80% with a DC faster charger takes just one hour. The monthly subscription fee is Rs 29,500 for 3 years. The Nexon EV is well within the reach of customers with prices ranging from Rs 13.99 lakh to Rs 16.40 lakh, ex-showroom.
