The popular mid-size SUV segment continues to grow strongly in our market. The competition is getting heated up in this segment s as well. That is already the case in the compact SUV segment with almost all the major players being present in the segment. The mid-size SUV is also seeing some new players entering the game like VW and Skoda with their SUVs, the Taigun and Kushaq respectively. Therefore, it will get even more interesting to watch where the segment goes in the future. Before that, however, let us take a look at how the other products performed in March.

Hyundai Creta – 12,640 Units
Hyundai Creta is officially the highest-selling SUV in India. In fact, Hyundai has sold over 10 lakh cars for domestic and export markets from India. In March 2021, Hyundai sold over 12,600 units of the Creta compared to almost the same number the month before. It is simply incredible how Hyundai is able to sustain such high volumes month after month.

Kia Seltos – 10,577 Units
The Korean sibling of the Hyundai, Kia has also seen a lot of success with its Creta-sibling/rival, the Seltos ever since its launch. However, it is not close to the Creta, it still is the second-highest selling mid-size SUV for quite some time and by quite some margin now. In March, Kia sold over 10,500 units of the Seltos compared to over 8,300 units the month before. This is an almost 28% growth in sales month on month.

MG Hector (including Hector Plus) – 4,720 Units
The Hector family is also the volume generator for the MG group in India. In the month of March, the combined sales of the Hector family stood at a healthy 4,720 units compared to February, where the sales were 3,662 units. This is an almost 20% rise in sales in a single month which is quite commendable.

Tata Harrier – 2,148 Units
The Tata Harrier has gathered some followers since its launch because of its rich in-cabin experience with a ton of modern amenities. In March, Tata sold over 2,100 units of the Harrier compared to February, which saw around 2,000 units being sold to the customers. This is also a healthy 7% growth in sales on an MoM basis.
Tata Safari – 2,284 Units
The flagship offering from Tata Motors, the iconic Safari has been selling like hotcakes since its revival in the country. In March 2021, Tata managed to sell a decent 2,284 units of the safari compared to February, where it sold over 1,700 units. This marks a significant 37% growth in sales of the SUV in just a month.

Mahindra Scorpio – 2,331 Units
Mahindra Scorpio actually saw a decline in sales on a month-on-month basis in anticipation of the next-gen Scorpio which is due for launch very soon. In March 2021, Mahindra sold over 2,300 units of the Scorpio in our market compared to over 3,500 units in February. The delay in the launch is partially due to the shortage of semi-conductors in the industry.
Mahindra XUV500 – 2,584 Units
Mahindra XUV500 saw a huge jump in sales in the month of March compared to the month prior. In March, Mahindra saw over 2,500 units being sold to the customers compared to a mere 829 units sold in the month of February. The reason for this could be some discounts on the SUV because the next-gen XUV500 is just around the corner and has been spied testing multiple times. We might expect the launch around mid-2021.
