Skoda has embarked on a challenging journey to establish itself as one of the major carmakers in the Indian automobile market. Although the Czech OEM has been in our market since a long time, it had struggled with grabbing a substantial market share for itself. It aims to change all that with the mid-size SUV, Kushaq, which will launch on June 28, 2021. Now, it wants to use this MQB A0 IN platform for its other products to keep the costs in check and offer a better user experience to the customers through its dense dealer and service network. Combining all these factors, the next product likely to launch in India after the Kushaq will be the City, Verna rival, Rapid replacement which is likely to be called Slavia. There have been a few spy shots that have surfaced online earlier. Let us see what we can deduce from these.

Skoda Rapid (Slavia) – Expected Exteriors
Now, we are slowly getting used to the modern design language that Skoda has been using on all its latest products around the globe recently. We expect that the Slavia will not be any different. In addition to being larger than the current Rapid in terms of overall exterior dimensions, the new Rapid (Slavia) might feature sharp creases all around along with new LED headlamps with the crystalline effect that we have seen on other new products from Skoda as well. The headlamp unit might be sleek and sharp along with sporty front fascia including LED DRLs and redesigned bumpers. We are likely to see the typical Skoda butterfly front grille which has been a common feature of its products. Overall, the appearance on the outside will definitely be modern, aggressive and sleek enhancing the road presence of the mid-size sedan.

Skoda Rapid (Slavia) – Expected Interiors and Features
Skoda is known for using high-quality materials inside the cabin along with some uniquely clever and practical features. We can expect the Rapid to come with a large touchscreen Infotainment System with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Digital Driver’s Instrument Cluster, Bluetooth Connectivity, Connected Car Tech Features, Automatic Climate Control, Multi-purpose two-spoke Steering Wheel, Premium Upholstery, Electric Sunroof, Premium Audio System and much more. Safety is also something that Skoda takes very seriously and we could expect the sedan to come with a plethora of safety equipment as well. All in all, it has to be feature-packed to compete with the likes of Hyundai Verna and Honda City.

Skoda Rapid (Slavia) – Expected Powertrains and Prices
The one thing that we can safely assume is that the next-gen Rapid will come with either or both engines including a 1.0-litre TSI and 1.5-litre TSI turbo petrol making 115 PS with 175 Nm and 150 PS with 250 Nm respectively. There will be options of either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission to complement the TSI units. The prices of the upcoming model could range between Rs 9 lakh to 15 lakh, ex-showroom. The rivals of the executive sedan will include the likes of Hyundai Verna, Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, the upcoming VW Vento and Toyota Belta.
