The Tata Nexon is an entry-level SUV that is no match for a high-end model like the Mercedes GLE but here’s a video that shows the sub-compact Tata dune-bashing while the Merc finds itself beached!
Tata Nexon is one of the best-selling sub-4-meter SUVs in our market. It is known among the buyers for its aggressive looks, decently-equipped cabin and overall built quality. In spite of being a sub-compact SUV, the Nexon has shown some amazing results in terms of off-roading. Here’s a recent video where a Nexon can be seen doing dune bashing.

This video has been uploaded by a YouTube channel named Lokesh Swami. In the video, the Tata Nexon is not the only car. One can also see Mahindra Thar, Maruti Gypsy, Toyota Fortuner and a Mercedes-Benz ML 350 CDI. All the SUVs can be seen going via dunes. Moreover, at one point, the Mercedes-Benz ML 350 CDI got stuck then the Mahindra Thar had to come to rescue the luxury SUV.
The YouTube video starts by showing Toyota Fortuner climbing a sand dune and coming down. Then the second turn is of Nexon. The Nexon driver seems to be quite experienced because first, he reverses the car for a few meters, which will give enough momentum to the SUV to climb the dune. If the SUV climbs the dune slowly, then its chances to get stuck are pretty high. The Nexon driver first builds up revs and then releases the clutch.

Then one can see the Tata Nexon climbing the dune. The driver keeps the SUV in a lower gear so that enough power is available throughout the rev range. While climbing the dune, the SUV can also be seen losing traction of loose sands, but it keeps on climbing. Overall, Nexon performed really well on the sand dunes. This shows the capabilities of the SUV on uneven terrains. The Nexon you see here is the pre-facelift model of the SUV. Last year, the carmaker introduced the new facelift version of the car with subtle cosmetics and features updates on the outside and inside. It is powered by 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol and a 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine. Transmission duties are done by a 5-speed MT or a 5-speed AMT. It gets retailed at a starting price of Rs 7.19 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
