The Ford Ecosport has had a fairly successful run in India. Launched in January 2012, the sub-4-metre model kickstarted the sub-compact SUV trend in India and had a free run of sorts until the advent of Maruti Vitara Brezza in 2016. By next year, the sub-4-metre SUV segment was joined by the Tata Nexon and the popularity of the EcoSport took a hit. While we give full credit to Ford for trying hard to keep the product fresh by being regular with updates and giving the variant lineup a rejig, there’s no denying the high age of the car that kickstarted the sub-compact SUV trend in the market.

Ford is now planning to give the EcoSport yet another facelift. We’ve already seen a few spy images of the updated version. In fact, we’ve even written on how the upcoming facelift might make this SUV look a tad bit like the Datsun redi-GO! Anyway, we really don’t undermine Ford’s efforts to keep the product fresh but what if it could pull off a neat trick of infusing the Mustang character with its Maruti Vitara Brezza-rival? The Ford Mustang is arguably one of the most iconic cars to come out of the United States and enjoys a huge fan following even everywhere else. In its latest iteration, the ‘stang looks decidedly tasty and very alluring. Today, we’ve got a digital rendering that imagines the EcoSport with the face of this popular muscle car and boy, doesn’t it look like just too attractive?
The video starts with the artist placing the front-end of the Ford Mustang (including most of the hood) onto the EcoSport. In the next few moments, he adjusts and refines the new nose by working on smoothening out the creases and ironing out some imperfections. Soon, the front-end of the EcoStang, as the artist loves to call it, takes its final shape. Next, the illustrator works on the B-pillars of the sub-compact SUV and pushes them backwards to give the car a sporty look. Finally, the artist makes some final edits, like giving the greenhouse a black tint and removing the Mustang badge from the grille.

Meanwhile, the 2021 Ford EcoSport facelift is likely to hit the showrooms in the coming months with its prices lying in the range of Rs 8.50 lakh to Rs 12 lakh, ex-showroom. Like the current version, the updated model will have to lock horns with a slew of compact SUVs including the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Maruti Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300, Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger. Engine options, which include 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol and a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine, should remain intact.
