Based on the regular version, the Hyundai i20 N Line will feature a slew of updates in order to offer a stronger performance and a sporty character
Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL), the country’s second-largest-selling carmaker and the number one exporter, has some really successful models in its portfolio. Cars like the Venue, Creta and i10 have not only helped the company find many buyers but have also propelled it to the top of the sales charts on many occasions. Earlier this year, the carmaker introduced the third generation i20 and now, various spy media suggests that soon, it would introduce the performance-bred Hyundai i20 N Line in the market. A test mule of the same was recently spotted undergoing high-speed tests on an expressway near Gurugram.

The Hyundai N performance brand isn’t an age-old name in the world of performance cars but it has still managed to establish itself pretty well. These N-badged cars have found many customers in Germany and UK, where they can be seen rivalling the GTI cars from Volkswagen or the RS models from Ford. The N performance moniker pays homage to the company’s research and development centre in Namyang and its European Technical Centre at Nürburgring in Germany.

In India, Hyundai has so far kept itself away from the performance segment as it’s chosen to focus more on mainstream market. However, soon, the Hyundai i20 N Line will become the first N product from Hyundai Motor India. Internationally, this car has been a direct rival of the VW Polo GTI but over here, in India, it will be seen locking horns with the GT TSI version. The new model will be based on the Turbo variant but will have the 1.0-litre mill in a higher state of tune of 120hp. It will even have a performance exhaust, reworked suspension and a sporty body kit. Even the interior would be updated in accordance with the sporty theme.
Prices of the Hyundai i20 N Line will likely have a base price of Rs 12 lakh (ex-showroom). This will make it a tad costlier than the regular Turbo variant but the higher power along with the DCT and reworked suspension should justify the price increment. A good part will be that this car won’t be horribly expensive like the VW GTI and will be accessible to enthusiasts with not-so-hefty wallets.
