Launched earlier this week, the Mahindra Bolero Neo is basically an updated TUV300 that has been given the Bolero moniker, of course, along with several updates, to have a better run on the sales charts. The Neo retains the bodyshell and even the underpinnings of the TUV300 but has been given some styling touches to look like it belongs to the Bolero family. Meanwhile, some of you would remember that around a decade and a half ago, Mahindra tried to infuse some excitement in the Bolero lineup by introducing new body styles of it. One of these was a dual-cab pickup that went on to be sold as the Bolero Camper. Based on that, an artist has visualised the Neo with a dual-cab pickup body and we must say the end result is impressive. In fact, it even makes for a cheaper alternative to the now exorbitantly priced Isuzu V-Cross.

The artist starts with an image of a white-coloured Bolero and he’s quick to get rid of the rear-three quarter of the vehicle. Next, he extends the wheelbase and sketches the larger overhang and extended rear section to create a loading bay and complete the skeleton of the dual-cab pickup body. Next, he goes on to work on the details and smoothens out the rendering by working on the colours and shadows. He also extends the rub strip from the doors to the taillights. The illustrator even installs roll bars on the loading back to complete the dual-cab pickup look. Next, he increases the wheel diameter to give the Camper a bolder stance. Finally, he installs a set of roof rails to complete the modification of the Bolero Neo into a dual-cab pickup truck.

We feel that the Mahindra Bolero Neo looks quite attractive in the dual-cab pickup truck avatar. It must be noted here that Mahindra has tried its hand at these private market-oriented pickups a few times – first with the Bolero Camper and then with the Scorpio Getaway. Both the times, it has received only little success. Given the small market, it doesn’t look like we’re having another pickup from the UV-specialist anytime soon but that doesn’t take away the fact that the TUV300-based Neo looks handsome in a dual-tone avatar. If nothing else, it will be a more affordable alternative to the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross that retails at Rs 16.54 lakh-19.99 lakh. True, the Neo won’t be as big or even have the 4×4 system but its shorter wheelbase and MLD is sure to help it with at least minor off-roading capabilities.

Prices of the Mahindra Bolero Neo range from Rs 8.48 lakh to Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom). It’s powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine that outputs 100 hp and 260 Nm. The motto comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Unlike the TUV300, there’s no AMT on offer. Also, the prices of the MLD-equipped N10(O) variant are yet to be disclosed.
