Nissan Magnite Hit By Bus With Drunk Driver – Owner Records Aftermath

Among the latest entrants in the highly competitive sub-compact segment, the Nissan Magnite went on sale in December last year and has been quick to become a sales success. A significant part of this can be attributed to the aggressive price tag. Back in the day, when the Magnite first went on sale, many questioned its build quality as they doubted something priced so competitively would not be built at a cost. But over time, this sub-compact SUV has proved its mettle and shown that it can actually keep its occupants safe in a crash. The ASEAN NCAP 4-star rating also reiterates the same. An accident of the Magnite with a roadways bus being driven by a drunk driver has once again shown the excellent build of the SUV.

The above video has been uploaded by one Nikhil Rana, who has not only shown the footage of the collission but even shared the audio from a phone call he had with the owner of the Nissan Magnite in question here. As you can hear torwards the end of the video, the owner of the SUV reveals that his car was hit by the bus on one of the turns where the speeding bus drove into his lane and hit the vehicle. He then goes on to explain that the car proved to be quite sturdy in the impact as none of the passengers could feel anything and were totally safe. He was initially surprised that the airbags didn’t deploy but was later told by the service advisor that airbags didn’t open simply because this was an impact from the side and not the front.

The owner of the Nissan Magnite then reveals that the driver of the roadways bus was in an inebriated condition and that is the reason he was going too fast and driving rashly. So, basically, it looks like the driver had lost control and drove off his lane in the turn and collided with the oncoming Magnite. Fortunately, there was no head-on collision and much of the impact was on the side of the car.

The Nissan Magnite seen here seems to be in the top-spec trim, which means it comes with a host of safety features including a 360-degree parking camera, tyre pressure monitoring system, vehicle dynamic control, hill start assist and traction control. Dual-front airbags, front seat belt alarm, high-speed alert, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, rear-window defogger and rear parking sensors are standard across the variant lineup.
