Old Honda City Launched in Pakistan, Gets 1200cc Engine

Launched last year, the latest-gen Honda City has been a runaway success. It has not only managed to outclass models like Maruti Ciaz and Hyundai Verna but has even managed to bring back the C2-segment of our car market in everyone’s focus. However, with the latest City, Honda Cars India has tried something that they haven’t ever done before, which is, to sell two generations of the same car. So, basically, the seventh-gen City is being sold alongside the last-gen model in India. To our amusement, Pakistan has only now received the updated sixth-gem model, which has gone on sale at a starting price of PKR 25,99,999 (INR 11,88,443).

Meanwhile, over here, the latest-gen Honda City has a base price of INR 10.99 lakh (ex-showroom). What’s more, the entry-level price of the previous-gen car is INR 9.29 lakh (ex-showroom), which simply means that our neighbours are having to pay a lot more for the same car. But wait, what’s even funnier is that the Indian version gets a 1.5-litre petrol engine as opposed to the Pak-spec City getting a 1,2-litre motor for the entry-level variants.

In Pakistan, the old Honda City is available in 5 variants – 1200cc Manual, 1200cc S CVT, 1500cc S CVT, 1500cc AS Manual, and 1500cc Aspire S CVT. The manual variants come with a 5-speed transmission.

Variant                                Price
City 1.2L Manual                           Rs. 2,599,000
City 1.2L CVT                                  Rs. 2,799,000
City 1.5L CVT                                  Rs. 2,899,000
City Aspire 1.5L MT                      Rs. 3,019,000
City Aspire 1.5L CVT                     Rs. 3,174,000

Even if you look at the features list, it’s clear that the old Honda City that is sold in Pakistan lacks a lot that the Indian version offers. For instance, there’s only a halogen headlamp on offer, while the fog lamps are optional in the first three variants. The 1.5-litre AS MT and AS CVT come with 15-inch alloy wheels but all other versions get 15-inch steel wheels. Only the 1.5-litre AS trims have a smart key entry while all others don’t. Standard features across the trim include push start, auto air conditioner, rear AC vents, ivory interior colour, and driver seat height adjustment. Only the top two trims get electric folding ORVMs. While the first three variants get a small 7-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, the top two versions have a 9-inch unit.

Standard safety features include ABS with EBD, Dual Front Airbags and Auto Door Lock. All versions get disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear. Cruise control is available on all variants except for the base 1.2-litre model, while rear camera is optional in the first three versions and standard on the top two.
