The next generation 2022 Mahindra Scorpio has once again been spotted undergoing road tests even as the 2021 Mahindra XUV700 will be launched in the coming weeks. The current generation of the Scorpio has been one of the most popular small SUVs for many years now and the next-generation model is sure to add a modern touch to the rather iconic moniker.

While the test mules of the next generation Scorpio refused to shed all that camouflage, the boxy silhouette of the upcoming SUV is clearly visible. The new model will be underpinned by the same platform as the latest-gen Thar but the SUV will be a tad larger than its outgoing version.
There will be several elements that will make it look fresher, including projector headlamps, bolder grille, chunkier bumpers and multi-spoke alloy wheels. The latest set of images has also given us another look at the side-opening rear door of the vehicle, thereby reaffirming that the carmaker has stuck to the side-opening format for the next-generation model.

2022 Mahindra Scorpio Specs and Features
The Scorpio will share its engines with the latest Thar, which means it will be sold with a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel burner. For the Thar, the petrol mill, which belongs to the mStallion family, outputs 150bhp. On the other hand, the mHawk oil-burner outputs 132bhp. Transmission options for both motors include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic unit. Like the Thar and unlike the XUV700, the next-gen Scorpio will be a body-on-frame model. This is something that should make the SUV perform pretty well off the road, especially since it will be sold with an optional 4×4 system.

While the interior of the 2022 Mahindra Scorpio is not seen in the latest images, earlier spy media has shown that the SUV will feature a more modern dashboard than the current model. It will feature a large-size touchscreen infotainment unit, dual-zone automatic climate control, multi-function steering wheel, semi-digital instrument cluster and a manual parking brake. In all likelihood, the touchscreen infotainment unit will support Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth and voice commands. The launch of the new-gen Scorpio will take place next year and prices are likely to start around Rs 9 lakh.
