The Maruti Suzuki Swift has been one of the most successful cars to have ever gone on sale in the country. The first-ten Maruti Swift entered the market back in 2005 and was replaced by an all-new model in 2010, which was, in turn, replaced by the HEARTECT-based 3rd-gen model back in 2017. Last year, it even got a mid-life facelift but the current-gen car is still some time away from being replaced by an all-new model. In spite of this, renderings of the 4th-gen Maruti Swift have started surfacing online.

The Maruti Swift has been a classic example of design evolution as with every generation change, the basic theme of the original model takes the next step and evolves into a more modern and sophisticated version. And if the renderings you see above are anything to go by, the next-gen model could be the biggest upgrade ever, with some of the styling elements taking a departure from their original form factor. For instance, the headlights could get a lot sleeker instead of having the pulled-back horizontally-oriented shape that has been seen till now. The current car’s huge upper grille will be reduced to a slim honeycomb affair with a Suzuki badge taking the centre stage. The bumper, however, will get chunkier than ever and carry a huge lower grille. The next-gen Swift Sport will also feature a bumper diffuser for a sportier look.

The next-gen Suzuki Swift Sport could even get faux air vents on the front fenders, while the A-pillars and the front design will retain much of their original shape. The C-pillar, like the one on the current car, will feature door handles, while the belt line will have a highly swept up design around this area. The rear-end will look very European and nothing like what we’ve seen on any Swift so far. The wrap-around taillights will have a triangular look, while the tailgate will feature a huge registration plate hosing. The rear bumper will carry a sporty design, especially on the Sport version where its will feature twin exhausts.

Internally, the next-generation Suzuki Swift has been codenamed YED. it will make its global debut around the middle of next year, while the India launch of the 4th-Gen Maruti Swift could take place only by 2023. The new car will be based on an all-new platform that should be lighter as well as safer than the current car’s HEARTECT architecture. The current 1.2-litre Dualjet motor will be retained but there will also be a hybrid option. Transmission options will continue to be a 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT. While there are slim chances of the next-gen Swift Sport making it to our country, t will be powered by an updated version of Suzuki’s 1.4-litre Turbo petrol motor that will work in tandem with a 48 V mild-hybrid system. The motor will likely come mated to a 6-speed manual transmission.
