The BS6 version of the Ford EcoSport continues to struggle with DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) problems. It is not the first time that the EcoSport owners have voice their complaints regarding the DPF issues. This time around, an owner mentions his problems in an EcoSport Owners’ Group on Facebook. Ever since the implementation of BS6 norms in India, diesel cars had to use a DPF filter to cut down harmful pollutants. But it is not easy to maintain this filter. It gets clogged up quite rapidly and the solution lies in driving the car at 60 kmph at around 1250 RPM for about 30 minutes. As one would imagine, this is not feasible at all. If this pattern gets broken, the filter remains clogged and one has to visit the dealerships where they manually clear it. This is highly impractical and requires a fix from Ford. Here are the details of the incident.

The owner had written to the service centre about the DPF issue. His DPF was getting filled by the pollutants rather quickly even though he travels on the highway most of the time. He was following the procedure to clear up the filter but still kept getting the warning sign “Exhaust Filter Overload – Drive to clean” on the instrument cluster. This happens to him just after 3,000 km of driving. In the response from Ford, he was asked to repeat the aforementioned procedure regularly. In case the car stalls, he can bring the car to the service centre. This is generic advice that anyone could give to the owners and people are frustrated by this. Ultimately, the EcoSport owner warns anyone looking to buy the Ford EcoSport with a diesel powertrain.

The facelifted Ford EcoSport has been spotted testing multiple times now and the launch is just around the corner. It will be interesting to see if Ford fixes this DPF problem with the facelifted version of the EcoSport or will it continue to bother the potential buyers. The powertrain options include a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine good for 120 hp and 149 Nm and the 1.5-litre diesel engine makes 100 hp and 215 Nm of peak power and torque respectively. There are options of either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The engine-transmission configuration is likely to remain identical even with the updated EcoSport. It has to rival strong competitors like Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet and Tata Nexon to name a few.
