Ford India customers have revealed a scam in the name of Road Side Assistance for Ford cars recently. A Ford owner posted in a group on Facebook about a woman calling him asking for Rs 5,000 for lifetime RSA service. Ford has been in the news for unclarity about its future in India. After the Joint Venture with Mahindra got cancelled, Ford is looking to sell off its manufacturing facility to another automaker due to low sales volumes. Both the companies were planning to co-develop many products together including a mid-size SUV for our market. But all such plans are gone now as Ford looks uncertain about its plans. Amidst all this, such scams in the name of the company are just unfortunate and certainly not what the American carmaker wants to deal with at this point in time.

Ford Road Side Assistance Service (RSA) Fraud
According to the incident explained by the Ford car owner, this woman pretended to be calling from Ford and asked about the personal and car registration details. Thereafter, she asked for Rs 5,000 to get a lifetime Ford Road Side Assistance service. To this, the car owner told her that he will discuss the matter with the authorized car dealer and the woman hung up to call. Interestingly, this was not a one-off incident. Replying to this post on Facebook, a few other Ford customers explained that the same incident happened to them too. Clearly, everyone understood that this is a scam going on and made the fellow Ford owners aware of this as soon as possible. These are some of the discussions on that Facebook page.

In reality, though, there is relevant information regarding the Road Side Assistance on Ford India’s official website. Ford does offer Road Side Assistance to all its customers and the toll-free numbers are given on the website. If you have any Ford vehicle (except Mustang), you can purchase the official RSA service by Ford at Rs 1,355 for one year or Rs 2,284 for two years. In the case of a Mustang, you can get RSA for 1 year at Rs 2,596 and for 2 years at Rs 4,483. These are nominal charges and cost almost similar to the other carmakers in India.

Ford EcoSport is in the process of getting another facelift soon and has been seen testing multiple times. Reportedly, however, work on the refreshed model has been put on hold until further clarity on plans for the future. Meanwhile, the Ford Figo recently received automatic versions indicating that Ford is still serious enough for the local car market. Will it manage to find another partner in India or will it look for its global platforms to develop new products for our market remains to be seen?
