Maruti Swift & Dzire CNG To Have Much Lesser Power Than Petrol Model

The power output of the CNG versions of Maruti Swift and Dzire has been leaked online. The astronomical fuel prices have forced customers to look for alternate fuels and CNG comes first in the line. While the commercial market already uses a lot of CNG vehicles, the use for private customers is still limited. That might change now with the Government also focusing more on alternate fuel sources. The aim is to curtail the crude oil imports by India. In a bid to do cash in on this opportunity, many carmakers are pondering over the developing CNG variants of their popular small cars. In the case of Maruti, these are Swift and Dzire. Although, Maruti also has a broad lineup of CNG cars. Here are the details (power and torque) of the CNG variants of the Swift and Dzire.

Maruti Swift & Dzire CNG Specs

It is a well-known fact that the CNG powertrains of a car produce less power and torque output than their IC engine-powered counterparts. It is the same with these two vehicles as well. According to these images, the 1.2-litre VVT petrol engine will produce a maximum of 72 PS power and 95 Nm torque. The regular versions of these cars produce 90 PS power and 113 Nm torque. The transmission options will still include either a 5-speed manual or an AMT gearbox. The CNG power figures are not bad for everyday city use and are a lot more affordable than running on petrol. In the commercial space, the Dzire has already been doing quite well for a long time.

Like we mentioned, the usage of CNG vehicles in India has largely been limited to the commercial sector. Many taxi operators buy CNG cars or retrofit the regular petrol car with a CNG cylinder. The infrastructure for CNG fuel is sufficient in various cities to consider it as a reliable fuel source. Hyundai also offers CNG variants for some of its vehicles and Tata is planning to launch the CNG-powered Tiago too. Skoda has cancelled the plans of launching the CNG version of Rapid.
