But now, the design is out in the open and the natural comparison to make is with Maruti Ignis. Along with the Ignis, Renault Kwid and Maruti S-Presso will be Punch’s chief rivals in our market. Tata Punch vs Maruti Ignis – Design Comparison
The Punch resembles its HBX concept a lot. Tata had promised at the Auto Expo 2020, that the production version of the HBX will retain more than 90% of the concept’s visuals. That was the main reason why it had gathered so much attention from the visitors then. The HBX was strong, bold and muscular. One can easily mistake it for a proper SUV with its stance and upright front fascia. The official image of the product spec confirms these claims. The front of the Punch represents the modern and latest Impact 2.0 Design Language from Tata Motors. The micro-SUV will be based on the new ALFA-ARC platform which will underpin future Tata products too. The front has a split headlamp set up with LED DRLs on the bonnet and the actual headlamps down on the bumper.

The front is a mixture of Nexon and Harrier. The LED DRL and headlight bit is Harrier-inspired and the front grille is Nexon-inspired. The combination makes it looks like a proper large SUV. This will lend it a great road presence in spite of its micro-SUVish dimensions. There is also a large radiator grille at the bottom of the bumper to distinguish itself from Nexon. The fog lamps are placed at the extreme ends of this grille making it look wider than it actually is. There is a chrome surround on the upper grille. The side profile is also quite sporty with stylish alloy wheels, body cladding, pronounced wheel arches, door handles at the quarter window. All in all, it will look the most SUV in the segment.

The Ignis, on the other hand, is also a unique-looking car. The upright stance and unique exterior design set it apart from the others. The front end looks busy with chrome elements on the grille, large headlamps with LED DRLs, massive sporty skid plate, stylish allow wheels, roof rails, relatively simple side profile. The rear features a roof-mounted spoiler, chunky skid plates, unique boot design. All these attributes make sure that it looks fit to compete in the segment.
