Only 1/3rd of Total Mahindra Thar Booked So Far Delivered

The Mahindra Thar has been booked by over 75,000 potential customers but two-thirds of the bookings have remained undelivered. This is a huge number and there could be quite a few specific reasons for that. The Thar was launched last year and received an unprecedented response from the first month itself. It has single-handedly popularized the lifestyle off-roading segment in the country. This Thar has successfully been able to balance the off-roading and rugged elements on the SUV with everyday driveability and convenience. Hence, people flocked in huge numbers to book the SUV. As a result, almost 66% of the booking are still undelivered. Let us discuss the reasons in detail.

66% Mahindra Thar SUVs Booked Remain Undelivered

Mahindra might not have anticipated such huge demand for the lifestyle off-roader. Hence, the production plan to meet out such high demand was not in place. Having looked at the initial response, Mahindra announced that it will increase the production capacity of the Thar immediately. However, even after doing that, the waiting period for some variants remained around 1 year in most of the cities. The main reason is the inability to anticipate the demand for the SUV. The second reason is the semiconductor supply shortage that has been plaguing the automobile industry globally. All this added to so many units of the Mahindra Thar remaining undelivered. In fact, the popular XUV700 launch also suffered long delays due to the same reason. With the XUV700 also receiving over 50,000 bookings in just two days, it could also face the same fate if Mahindra doesn’t plan something in advance.
