Sedans continue to be one of the most aspirational purchases for any car buyer. By definition, a sedan is a three box shape with separate compartments for the engine, passengers and luggage. They encompass a very wide price gap ranging from just 5 lakhs all the way up to 5 crores. Over the next one year, a whole host of new sedans will arrive in showrooms. They will include new names, re-entry of familiar names, new generations of existing products and more. Read on to find out more about all the Upcoming Sedan Cars in India 2017 -18.

Upcoming Sedan Cars in India
Tata Tigor (Tiago Compact Sedan)
Leading our list of the Upcoming Sedan Cars in India 2017 is the Tata Tigor (Tata Kite5). Tata Motors, the company who gave birth to the compact sedan in India with the Indigo CS, seems to be betting big on the segment to push sales and regain some lost ground. Tata is almost ready with the sedan derivative of the Tiago, which they will place below the Zest. Until recently, it was known by its internal codename Kite 5. It will also, in all probability, be the cheapest compact sedan on sale in India. Based on the Tiago hatchback, it made its public debut at the Auto Expo 2016. Expect a starting price of around Rs. 4.00 lakh.

2017 Hyundai Verna
The 2017 Hyundai Verna should be here by mid-2017. The new Verna looks sharper than the current model and features a more modern design. We’re expecting the current set of petrol and diesel engines to make it to the 2017 Verna. However, the 4-speed AT might make way for a newer 6-speed automatic transmission.

The design changes made to the Grand i10 will eventually trickle down to its compact sedan sibling. We’re expecting Hyundai to launch the Xcent facelift in the second half of 2017. Prices should not witness any major changes.

Maruti Ciaz Facelift
Maruti is prepping to launch the Ciaz facelift in H1, 2017! The Ciaz facelift will be tasked with fending off the heat from the all-new Hyundai Verna and the Honda City facelift. The Ciaz will probably come with a mildly updated front fascia and a longer features list. Also, we won’t be surprised if Maruti tinkers with the engines to extract even higher fuel mileage. It maybe noted that the Ciaz is currently the most fuel efficient car around. The Ciaz facelift is expected to be sold through the Nexa dealerships.

As part of the facelift, the Corolla Altis gets a new nose, styling tweaks to the rear and slight updates to the interiors. With the upcoming Corolla Altis facelift, Toyota will be better equipped to take on rivals like the Hyundai Elantra and Skoda Octavia.

Toyota Vios
We expect Toyota to launch a new sedan in India in the next 10-12 months, which will borrow design cues from the Vios. This mid-size sedan has been on sale in international markets for quite some time and has tasted a lot of success as well. When launched in India, the Vios, or the whatever Toyota decides to call it, will compete with the Honda City, Maruti Ciaz and the likes. It will get a 1.5 L petrol and possibly the Corolla’s 1.4 L Diesel. The new sedan will slot in between the Etios and the Corolla. Expect prices to start at around the 8 lakh mark. We’ve been expecting the Vios in India for many years now, but the Japanese car maker is yet to confirm any such plans.

2016 Honda Civic
The second Honda on our list of Upcoming Sedan Cars in India 2017 is the new Civic. The Honda Civic‘s history in India is similar to that of its stablemate, the Accord. Dwindling sales due to the presence of cheaper, diesel equipped alternatives meant the Civic was taken off the shelves after the next generation was launched internationally. The 2016 Honda Civic sedan made its debut last year. And we’re expecting it to come to India by the end of 2017. Powering 1.8-litre could be a 1.8-litre petrol and the 1.5-litre that power the City. While it might not be the most powerful diesel unit out there, it will still be more powerful than the segment leader Corolla and will also make the Civic one of the most frugal sedans around.
Engine Type/ Displacement | 1.8 litre Petrol/1.5 litre diesel |
Power | 130 bhp/99 bhp |
Torque | 172 Nm/200 Nm |
Transmission (Gearbox) | 6-speed manual/CVT |

Expected Launch | End 2017 |
Price (Estimated) | Rs. 13-15 lakh |
2016 Chevrolet Cruze
The current Chevrolet Cruze has been around for too long now, a fact which is well reflected in its sales figures. After successful initial years in the market, the craze for the Cruze faded away as GM failed to bring in regular updates. The next generation model came out recently and will come to India. The launch should take place by late 2017. The sedan still remains one of the most powerful diesel offerings and easily the best value for money in the segment. However, it has lost out to newer competition like the Toyota Corolla, Hyundai Elantra, etc. The next gen Cruze is one of the two Chevrolet products on our list of Upcoming Sedan Cars in India 2017.

One of them was the Essentia compact sedan, a derivative of the new Beat. The new Beat will come in two body styles- hatchback and a compact sedan.
