After enthralling the show-goers with the Mahindra XUV Aero concept at the Auto Expo 2016, Mahindra and Mahindra, the popular Maharashtra-based passenger car and utility vehicle manufacturer, will come up with the Mahindra Convertible SUV concept at the fast-approaching Auto Expo 2018. While the XUV Aero concept was based on the XUV500, the Convertible SUV Concept will be based on the TUV300. That said, there won’t be a hint of the TUV300 in the design of the upcoming concept.

Akin to the TUV300, even the Mahindra Convertible SUV Concept measures less than four-metres in length. Hence, a production version, if it ever sees the light of the day, will benefit from a lower excise duty. This should lead to a competitive price tag. We feel the production-spec version of this concept can make for a rather interesting alternative to the current crop of sub-4-metre SUVs like the Maruti Vitara Brezza.
Details on the specifications aren’t available at the moment. However, rumours abound that the concept will come with an updated version of the 1.5-litre mHawk turbocharged diesel engine that is found under the TUV’s hood. The re-tuned motor will output a maximum power of 101 hp along with a peak torque of 240 Nm. The Mahindra Convertible SUV will be underpinned by the TUV300’s ladder-on-frame chassis. Other than the new concept, Mahindra will also showcase the U321 MPV and the new Rexton (XUV700) SUV at the Auto Expo 2018.
