The new 2018 Maruti Suzuki WagonR is likely to be launched soon. Will be based on the HEARTECH platform and could get a diesel engine in it’s line-up.
Maruti Suzuki India Limited is working steadily towards replacing it’s current vehice line-up with new age products. After the Dzire and Swift, the next product in line could be the compact hatchback WagonR. Curtsey a Rushlane reader, a few completely undisguised images of the 2018 Maruti Suzuki WagonR have surfaced on the internet. What is interesting to note is that this mule flaunts Suzuki’s mild-hybrid badge. Indicating that the next-generation WagonR could include a diesel engine in it’s line-up.
The unit seen in these spy images is a CBU unit and quite close to what the actual product might look like. However, it is likely that the 2018 WagonR when launched sports a slightly different styling. Neverthless, the 2018 Maruti Suzuki WagonR will continue to come with it’s signature tall boy design. As seen in the images, the compact hatchback gets large wrap-around headlamps along with LED tail-lamps.

The 2018 Maruti Suzuki WagonR gets a completly revised front facia. The side profile is likely to remain the same with minor alterations. The rear, though continuing to remain outright flat, will get a new tail-gate. Just like the recently launched Swift and Dzire, the next-generation Wagon R will be based on Suzuki’s HEARTECH platfrom. Dimensions of the hatchback are expected to remain the same, though there could be an increase in the wheelbase.

The 2018 Maruti Suzuki WagonR is expected to get a slightly premium cabin. The increase in wheelbase will insure better legroom for rear passengers. In terms of the equipment list, the 2018 WagonR could incorporate a touchscreen infotainment system in the top-end variant. The hatchback will be high on safety in comparisson to the outgoing model. It is to get dual-airbags and ABS as standard across the range.
Coming to the engine line-up, the 2018 Maruti Suzuki WagonR will continue to come with the same 1.0-litre petrol engine. In current spec it churns out 67 BHP along with 90NM of peak torque. Transmission options will include a 5-speed manual and Maruti’s automatic AGS unit. As seen on the spy images, the mule seem to sport Suzuki’s mild-hybrid SHVS badge. This indicates towards the likely addition of a diesel engine to WagonR’s line-up in future. Maruti Suzuki has plans to phase out the existing Fiat sourced diesel engines by 2020. Maruti will develop it’s own set of diesel engines by that period.
The 2018 Maruti Suzuki WagonR is likely to be placed in the same bracket. Base variant will start around INR 3.8 Lakhs with the top end variant costing close to INR 6 Lakhs.
