Maruti Suzuki is currently working on a 7-seater iteration of the Wagon R compact hatchback. The automaker has made the first public appearance of this vehicle as a concept at the 2014 Auto Expo. Since then, it seems that the launch of this vehicle was put on hold by Maruti. Recently, the Suzuki Solio was seen testing on Indian roads. Increasing speculations that it could be the new Wagon R 7-seater for the Indian market. Recent media reports suggest that we are soon going to see the launch of the Wagon R MPV in India. Upon its launch, this vehicle will find its place below Maruti’s current and only MPV, the Ertiga. Maruti is likely to begin the production of this vehicle in India starting September 2018. Consequently, expect the launch to happen sometime during late 2018 or early 2019.

As mentioned before, we believe that the production of the 7-seater Wagon R will commence from the month of September this year. Going by recent media speculations, expect the car to launch on Indian soil by the end of this year itself. Furthermore, there have been a number of instances where the Suzuki Solio, the Wagon R based 7-seater MPV, was seen testing on India roads. Consequently indicating towards the launch in the near future. That said, Maruti will first of all launch the next-generation iteration of the Wagon R hatchback. Currently, the 5-seater version of the Maruti Wagon R retails in-between the price range of INR 3.5 lakh to INR 5.5 Lakh. Expect the prices of the 7-seater version to cost a premium of INR 50,000 to 60,000. With this, the prices are likely to fall in the range of INR 4 lakh to 6 lakh. As a result, this MPV will find its place in-between the Eco and the Ertiga in Maruti Suzuki’s model line-up.

Maruti Wagon R 7-Seater Engine Specifications
Currently, there are no concrete details regarding the engine specifications of the Wagon R 7-seater. However, we can safely speculate that this car will get the same engines as its 5-seater sibling. Hence, it will come only with a petrol engine at its disposal. This unit is going to be a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder motor which produces 65 BHP along with 91 Nm of peak torque. The car will get a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard. Maruti can also introduce the 5-speed AMT unit as well.

Maruti Wagon R 7-Seater Mileage
Maruti cars are always very frugal in nature. Since the 7-seater version of the Wagon R comes with the 1.0-litre, K-Series engine, it is bound to give a mileage of around 18 km/l. However, with the MPV version slightly longer i is going to be heavier as well. Consequently, expect the mileage to go down a little bit.
