New Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 – All You Need To Know About It

The Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 was unveiled as a cafe racer to revive the old memories. After its unveiling in 2017, it is said that the bike will reach India post-April 2018. The GT 650 features a mix of neo-retro styling. The cafe racer will be powered by a 648 CC fuel-injected, air / oil-cooled engine.

Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 is set to hit the roads in India in 2018. The muscular bike will run on a twin parallel cylinder 648 CC engine. It is said that GT 650 will revive the memories of the cafe racers with its forward lean muscular body. Also, it comes with ABS as a standard fitting measure. It is estimated to cost anything between Rs 3 Lakh – Rs 5 Lakh (ex-showroom). On the other hand, Royal Enfield discontinued the Continental GT 535 to make space for the upcoming GT 650. It will offer a similar cafe racer like the discontinued model. Onboard features include a teardrop shaped fuel tank, wide braced handlebars, quilted twin seating and 18” wheels fitted with 100-section front and 130-section rear Pirelli Phantom Sportscomp tires.

Locally, it is produced at the Chennai Plant of the company. The 648 CC engine will produce 47PS worth power and 52 Nm worth torque and will be mated to a six-speed gearbox. The estimated mileage is not revealed but fuel capacity of the bike will be around 12.5 Litres. GT 650 gets exciting Dual exhaust mufflers. The gearbox gets slip/assist clutch offering smoother riding.  Also, for better comfort, it will come with gas-charged twin shock absorbers. For braking, it has front and rear disc brakes, with ABS. The bike is well equipped in terms of digital features.

Although the price of the bike is not revealed officially, it is speculated that it will be priced between Rs 3 Lakh to Rs 5 Lakh. The pricing is estimated mainly because of the added twin parallel engine and ABS feature. Also, its predecessor, GT 535, is priced starting from Rs 2.05 Lakh.

The design is based on proper old school bikes. Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 defines it muscularity with sporty and macho looks. It weighs around 199 KG. They will sport the Roadster and Cafe Racer design and styling, which is rarely found in India. Royal Enfield has assured that these bikes will have a top-notch fit and finish and a lot of thought and work has gone into the quality as well. The bikes will be available in four colours – Staunchy Blue, Chrome, Icy White and Black Magic.

Given the decent pricing, the bike’s main competitor will be Harley Davidson Street 750. Priced much lower than that, it can take on Street 750 because of similar specs sparing the engine. Being a type of cruiser bike, it falls off against the other bikes in the same price range. Royal Enfield GT 650 has been launched globally and is bound for India this year. According to some reports, the bike will hit the Indian roads anytime after April 2018.
