Next-Generation Honda City Launch Timeline Revealed- Report

The next-generation Honda City is likely to make its debut sometime during the year 2020. Speculators state that it could get a CVT automatic gearbox across both petrol and diesel derivatives. Not only this but for the first time, the Honda City could feature a hybrid variant as well.

Honda, the Japanese auto giant is currently working on a generation update for the City mid-size sedan. Speculations are on the rise stating that the next-generation iteration of the Honda City could launch sometime during the year 2020. Naturally, we expect Honda to completely revamp the styling of this popular executive sedan, inside out. Furthermore, it is likely that the engine specifications will also feature a complete overhaul, thanks to the new emission regulation coming into effect. In addition to this, with this update, the City could even get a hybrid version.

New Honda City: A Quick Overview

The next-generation Honda City will finally get a CVT automatic gearbox in the diesel derivative. At the 2018 Auto Expo, Honda did showcase this version, However, according to some recent media reports, the CVT gearbox (with the diesel engine) will now make it to the current generation of the City. The automaker believes that the number of sales is not going to justify the amount of investment needed for the development.

The Honda City has been around for almost two decades in India. Since then this sedan has garnered a huge fan base. The first generation of the City is known for its quality along with supreme driving dynamics. It established Honda’s reputation as a premium car marker in India. However, that reputation is slightly lost in the due course of time. With the new generation version of the City, Honda aims to change that.

There are no concrete details at the moment regarding the exact specifications of the next-generation City. However, we can safely assume that the new City’s design will in in-line with its classic futuristic styling.

The engine specifications of the Honda City are likely to remain the same. The petrol derivative is going to get the 1.5-litre i-VTEC motor. While the diesel derivative is going to get the 1.5-litre i-DTEC motor. A 6-speed manual gearbox will be available as standard across the range. In addition to this, the sedan will also get a CVT automatic gearbox, on both the petrol and diesel derivatives.

Honda: Future Plans

Honda is planning to launch a total of 6 new vehicles in India within the span of next three years. Out of these 6 new models, 4 will be above the INR 8 lakh to INR 10 lakh range. As mentioned before, these will help Honda once again establish its premium reputation in India. These new models include the likes of CR-V, Civic, HR-V and generation updates for the City, Amaze and Jazz.
