The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza is currently the leader in compact SUV segment in India. This is despite the fact that it only comes in a diesel variant. After the generation updates given to the Swift and the Dzire, it is about time that Maruti’s only 7-seater MPV gets its next-gen variant as well. The new Maruti Ertiga will share the same Heartect platforms that underpin Maruti’s all new vehicles. It will feature the same engine line-up as before. As a result of this, the fuel economy of the new Ertiga is going to be slightly better than the outgoing model. After a really long wait, we are finally going to see the launch of the next-generation Hyundai Santro in India. The sub-compact hatchback will find its place above the Eon in Hyundai’s line-up. And competes against its age-old rival, Maruti Suzuki WagonR. So far details on this vehicle are quite scarce. However, we believe that the new Santro will come only in a petrol guise. It will use the same 1.0-litre motor which currently powers the Eon. The launch of the new Santro is likely to happen during the festive season months. Taking care of the South Korean automaker’s entry-level segment, the Eon has so far stood as a strong contender. The next-generation Hyundai Eon will get considerable design updates. Datsun’s attempt at targeting the budget MPV segment with the Go Plus has not worked out quite well. With the Go-Cross the company plans to change that. The Go-Cross MPV will stand in direct competition with the Maruti Ertiga. Judging by the concept that we saw at the 2016 Auto Expo, the Go-Cross will have an SUV-ish exterior profile. This will help in garner those buyers who want a macho-looking MPV. The engine specifications of the Datsun Go-Cross will resemble the one seen on the Go-Plus.
