The next-generation Maruti Alto 800 is likely to launch in India by the first quarter of 2019. It will have a crossover design, owing to the current demand for rugged looking vehicle in India, be it any segment. it will also score high in terms of features and safety equipment.
By the first quarter of 2019, Maruti Suzuki, India’s leading automobile manufacturer will launch an all-new, generation update for its largest selling hatchback Alto in India. The Indo-Japanese automaker is currently working on this vehicle and according to recent media reports, will debut it in our country by February 2019. Since this update will comprise a new generation model, expect it to have an all-new design and new cabin layout. Speculations suggest that the 2019 Alto will adorn a crossover look. And is going to derive its aesthetics from the Future Concept S which was showcased at the Auto Expo this year. Furthermore, this car will get a decent equipment list and an extensive safety list as standard as well. It may be noted here that the Suzuki Alto sold in the Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) uses a 660cc petrol engine that offers a good mix of mileage and power. This three-cylinder, 658cc, R06A petrol engine outputs a maximum power of 51 PS along with a peak torque of 63 Nm. The engine offers a really high mileage of 37 kmpl in the JC08 test cycle. While it might sound like a downgrade from the current 796cc unit, let’s not forget that the 2018 Alto will be considerably lighter. Also, the 796cc F8 engine has got a bit too long in the tooth now and a modern replacement is definitely the way forward.

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd is yet to let out an official word on the launch date of the new Maruti Alto 8002018. However, there are good chances that this hatchback will go on sale towards the end of next year, probably around the next year’s festive season. In spite of enjoying a 45% market share in India’s passenger car market, MSIL has been gradually losing out to various new entrants such as Datsun and Renault. Both the Redi Go and the Kwid offer 0.8-litre and 1.0-litre variants that directly target the Alto twins. While Maruti has so far launched pricier cars in the form of the new S-Cross and the Ignis, it will finally shift its focus on the entry-level segments to further consolidate its position. Suzuki has been using this small-capacity three-cylinder engine for a lot of time now.
