Benelli is coming back to India soon after its tie-up with South India based, Mahavir Group. Earlier, the Italian bike maker used to sell bikes in partnership with DSK in the Indian markets. Together, Benelli and Mahavir group will launch 3 new bikes in India this year.
Benelli recently was out of business for a couple of months. The reason was mainly due to falling out with its Chinese partner, DSK. The legendary Italian manufacturer currently has three motorcycles in its lineup – TNT 300, TNT 600i and 302R. Now, after being shut for several months, it has tied up with South based Mahavir Group. For this new venture, Mahavir Group has floated a new company by the name of Adishwar Auto Ride India (AARI). Together, this new venture will launch more Benelli bikes in India. Currently, Benelli has confirmed about the news of 3 upcoming bikes – TNT 302S, Leoncino and TRK 502. The 302S will be a more updated and stylish version of the TNT 300. The Leoncino is a scrambler-type motorcycle and the TRK 502 is an ADV bike.

Mahavir group currently has a very long experience in the automobile business. It owns a couple of Skoda dealerships, Mercedes-Benz, Benelli and Indian Motorcycle dealerships in South India. For the first time, it has now ventured into vehicle manufacturing. Mahavir is going to set up an assembly plant on the outskirts of Hyderabad for manufacturing CKD units.
Currently, Mahavir group has already taken 18 dealerships from the Italian maker and has promised to add 20 dealers every year. Also, Benelli will only have its name on the bike and not of Mahavir group. Earlier, DSK made it a point to have its name on the bike.

The earliest upcoming bike to arrive in India will be the Leoncino, followed by maybe TNT 302S. Leoncino and TRK 502 are completely new products and will sport a 499.6cc liquid cooled twin cylinder engine. This engine produces 47.6 BHP of power and 45 Nm of torque. Both will come in two variants each out of which, one will be the Standard one and other will be focussed on better off-road.

Another report says that Benelli is also opting for localization of parts. The Italian brand has signed another agreement for a bigger 20 acres to assemble, manufacture and import spare parts. In an interview with Autocar, the bike makers have stated that localization is on the table for them. Within a year or two, it can be possible along with the launch of new motorcycles. First, the 300cc bikes will be localized in India.
