Maruti Swift RS could launch in India during the first quarter of 2019. Prices likely to start from INR 7.50 lakh. Nothing confirmed by Maruti as of yet. The primary competitor could be Tata Tiago JTP.
The 2018 Maruti Suzuki Swift is off to a very good start in India. With the sales crossing more than 1 lakh, it looks Indians are quite impressed with the new iteration of this compact urban hatchback. In lieu of this, there are rising rumours that Maruti Suzuki is under consideration to launch the RS version of the Swift in India. The Japanese automaker has already launched the Baleno RS, which despite Baleno’s huge success, did not get an enthusiastic response. However, with the lower price tag of close to 7.50 lakh, the Swift RS could turn out to be a different scenario. We are expecting Maruti to launch the RS Swift in India sometime during the first quarter of 2019. Until then, there is our report on everything that we know so far about the Maruti Swift RS.
Maruti Swift RS- Launch Date
As mentioned before, we are expecting Maruti Suzuki to launch the RS variant of the Swift in India during the first half of 2019. During the festive season this year, we believe that we might just see the launch the Tata Tiago JTP. Maruti might wait till its launch, see what sort of response the former gets and then decide to launch the Swift Rs in our country.

Like the new Baleno RS, the Swift RS could also cost around a lakh or so more than the top of the line standard 1.2 Petrol. Our guess is that if Maruti does launch this hot hatch in India with a 1.0 L Boosterjet engine, it will cost around Rs. 7.50 lakh (ex-showroom).

As we mentioned earlier, the Swift RS could feature the Baleno RS’ 1.0 L Boosterjet petrol engine. While in the past, Maruti has used the RS suffix for merely cosmetic upgrades (Ciaz, Swift), they have only one RS model on sale currently in the form of the Baleno RS. It is possible that MSIL has now reserved the RS suffix only for performance-oriented models.
Suzuki Swift RS on sale in Japan features the same 1.2 L Petrol engine as the other variants with no gain in power. We will get a clear idea of what approach Maruti adopts for India regarding the Swift RS closer to its launch. Assuming, they do decide to bring it here.

The 2018 Maruti Swift RS could make for an interesting addition to the next generation lineup of this hatchback in India. With the popularity of performance-oriented hatchbacks on the rise, Maruti might eventually launch an RS variant of this vehicle.

Maruti Swift RS- Design
The 2018 Swift RS will look slightly different from the standard variants of the hatchback. At the front, it gets a mesh grille, a sportier bumper and a red stripe running across the grille. There will be projector headlamps and LED DRLs on offer as well. At the back, much like the front end, the Maruti Swift RS gets a sportier bumper along with LED tail lights. The side profile features new alloys wheel design and side skirts. Akin to the new Baleno RS and the Ciaz RS (that was on sale until recently), this sportier version of the hatchback looks much more sporty than the standard car. The flat bottom steering wheel seen in the images of the new 2018 Suzuki Swift could make it to the RS variant in India. Also, expect it to get an all-black interior treatment. Maruti did not make any changes to the Baleno RS’ interiors in comparison to the standard Baleno.
