Maruti Ciaz has managed to stand at the largest selling sedan in India for the month of August 2018. The second best-selling sedan is the Hyundai Verna.
For the month of August 2018, the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz has topped the list as the largest selling sedan in the Indian market.
How many units did it sell you ask?
Well, the Maruti Ciaz sold a total of 7002 units for the aforementioned period.
We are sure that now you would want to know as to how many units does the Ciaz sold in August 2017?
The answer to that is:
Maruti Suzuki sold a total of 6,457 units of the Ciaz during the same month last year. This translates into an 8% increase in the sales for this c-segment sedan.
This brings us to the next important question:
Which was the second best selling sedan in India for August 2018?
The answer to this question is quite predictable:
It was the Hyundai Verna. This C-segment sedan from the South Korean automaker sold a total of 3,361 units in August 2018. On the other hand, for the same month last year, Hyundai sold a total of 4,779 units. This accounts for a 30% decrease in the sales of the Hyundai Verna.

Which sedan made it to the third step of the podium?
Well, it was none other than the Honda City. This sedan from Japan sold a total of 2,790 units for August 2018. Comparing this data to the sales figure for the same month last year, the City then sold a total of 5,538 units. This accounts for an almost 50% decrease in the sales of this sedan.
The fourth, fifth and the sixth spot on the list was taken by the Toyota Yaris, Skoda Rapid and the Volkswagen Vento respectively. They individually sold a total of 1,047, 817 and 542 units respectively.

The interesting this to note here is that if we combine the total sales numbers of the Hyundai Verna and the Honda City it amounts to 6,151 (3,361+2,790). Which is still less than the individual sales of the Maruti Ciaz (7,002).
So what can be the reason for this?
Apart from the fact that the Ciaz is a Maruti Suzuki, this sedan has just recieved its mid-cycle facelift. With this, it comes with several new features and a minor cosmetic update.

The biggest advantage of the new Maruti Ciaz over the competition is the introduction of an all-new 1.5-litre petrol engine. This new gasoline engine comes paired to Suzuki’s mild-hybrid powertrain. With this, the car promises a fuel-efficiency figure of 20 km/l. Not only this, the Ciaz is currently the cheapest C-Segment sedan currently on sale in India.
