The much-awaited RE Continental GT 650 and Interceptor 650 are going to launch globally tomorrow. The India launch will most likely happen in November. So here are the five things that you should know about both of the bikes.
Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 and Interceptor 650 are launching tomorrow in the USA. While the Continental is a cafe racer, the Interceptor is a street bike. Both look similar to each other except for a few visual changes. The difference between both of them is the seating arrangement, footpegs, fuel tank, and the handlebar placement. Both the bikes are expected to launch in India by the end of the festive season, in November. So ahead of their global launch, here we list the 5 things that you should know about both the bikes.
1. Design
Talking about the design, RE had made the Continental GT 650 and Interceptor 650 simple yet classy. There are no loud decals or anything. Both the bikes retain their retro looks with the angular indicators, chrome detailing, round headlamps and the exhaust muffle flowing over the side frame. The Continental uses black colour on some parts of the bike. The Interceptor gets the single seat, which gives it a 1960s look. If you look at the photos of the original Interceptor, you would notice the similarities between both of them.

2. Engine Specifications
The engine on this bike is a bliss. It gets a twin-parallel 648cc engine which usually comes with high-performance bikes. This engine produces around 47 BHP of power and 32 Nm of torque. For transmission, it uses a 6-speed gearbox with a wet multi-plate clutch.
3. Top Speed and Mileage
RE claims that the Continental GT 650 and Interceptor 650 can reach a top speed of 160 kmph. With a huge weight of nearly 200 kgs, these bikes might be quite stable while cruising at high speed. The mileage claimed is around 25 kmpl, which in real-world conditions could come down to 20-21 kmpl.

4. Chassis, Suspension, and Brakes
Since it a performance bike, we have to talk about the chassis, suspension and the brakes. It gets a new double-cradle chassis, which is used on both the bikes. The 650 Twins also get the same suspension and braking unit. For suspension, the Twins use 41 mm Dia Front fork suspension and in the rear, Twin Coil-over shocks suspension. Both use a 320mm floating disc brake in the front and 240 mm disc in the rear, powered with a dual-channel ABS.
5. Features and Price Expectations
We skip the technology partly because of the minimal use. Well if it gets the latest technology, then will it still be a retro bike? However, the main features include projector headlamps and clip-on handlebars. Lastly, we take a dig at the prices. Tomorrow, we get to know the global prices. However, many reports suggest that the Interceptor might go for around Rs 3 Lakhs and the Continental for around Rs 3.5 Lakhs. The GT 535 retails at Rs 2.05 Lakhs in India.
