Maruti Suzuki BS-VI cars to be ready 3-4 months before the deadline

The stringent emission norms are starting from April 2020. For that, Maruti Suzuki will most likely make all of its cars BS-VI compliant by January 2020. As per our knowledge, it has already begun testing the cars.

The more stringent BS-VI norms are kicking in after April 2020. As per Government’s latest ruling, a BS-IV car can neither be manufactured nor sold after April 2020. Earlier, Government had proposed a grace period up to June 2020 to sell off BS-IV cars, but the Government declined to that. As of now, we have an update on Maruti Suzuki and it is already ready with BS-VI compliant cars.

As per carandbike, Maruti Suzuki is ready with BS-VI vehicles. The automaker will start introducing the BS-VI cars. Maruti will start rolling out these new engine cars 3-4 months before the deadline, most probably from January. So, from January Maruti Suzuki BS-VI cars might be on sale.

Carandbike states that Maruti was sure of exhausting its BS-IV inventory well before the deadline. The first BS-VI model could be the new Maruti Ertiga, which is launching on 21st November.

Maruti Suzuki will introduce BS-VI engines to almost every model in its lineup. While Ertiga is the first one to get BS-VI engines, the next one in the line might be S-Cross and Brezza petrol.

BS-VI norms are comparably stricter than the earlier norms. For example, all the diesel cars will be fitted with a diesel particulate filter, catalyst reduction and exhaust treatment system. This change will be seen from manufacturer’s side for all the diesel engines.

While BS-VI norms will be introduced in April 2020, stricter safety norms will also kick in from October 2020. In the safety norms, every car must be equipped with rear parking sensors, dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP and it should be pedestrian safety compliance. Because of this, Maruti Omni will be discontinued in October 2020.

A lot of automakers are thinking of dropping certain models in their lineup, because of the emission norms. Certain models which are not generating decent sales figures are in consideration. The primary reason for this is saving up on costs.

Along with BS-VI cars, fuel suppliers also have to update themselves with BS-VI fuels. All these processes will be done before April 2020, as no BS-IV car can be sold legally after the deadline.
