Quadricycles can now be used as passenger vehicles in India. Bajaj Qute can now finally be launched in India as a private vehicle. Till now, quadricycles were allowed only for transport usage.
Earlier, as per Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Quadricycles were not allowed for transport. The 4-wheeler setup was allowed only for non-transport usage, as a goods carrier, under Motorcycle Act 1988. Now, Quadricycles can be used for transport usage in India.
A quadricycle is basically a 4-wheeler setup that is the size of a rickshaw. It measures lesser than 3.6 Metres and is also lighter than 475 kgs. It comes with a hard top, making it a covered 4-wheeler setup.
Now, private owners, as well as taxi fleets, can use quadricycles for passenger ferrying. With this, Bajaj Qute can now finally launch in the Indian market. The launch was delayed by over a year.

Bajaj Qute is long awaited in the market, but because of the approvals and other Government problems, there was a delay. A couple of months back, quadricycles were allowed to be used for commercial purposes.
Bajaj Qute comes with a 200cc DTS-i engine, which can run with petrol, diesel as well as CNG. It produces max. power output of 20 BHP, which is quite enough for city use. The maximum achievable speed on Qute is around 70 km/hr. The claimed mileage is near 35 kmpl.
Features onboard will include the basic features of a car with the option of additional accessories like an MP3 player and a semi-digital instrument cluster.

However, one problem still remains. Quadricycles have to meet the upcoming safety norms as well. They will have to undergo various crash tests as well as take on the upcoming emission norms.
As of now, there are no details of what safety features will come aboard Bajaj Qute. Bajaj Auto will work on making it ready for the crash tests.
Initial reports suggest that the bookings for the quadricycle have started in North East and Kerala. These two regions might be the first ones to get the quadricycle. However, there is no such official confirmation of its launch details.

The expected pricing of Bajaj Qute is around Rs 1.4 Lakhs. The CNG variant might demand a small margin over the petrol variant. Expect the CNG variant to demand around Rs 20,000 more. Once it launches, Bajaj Qute will be the cheapest 4-wheeler in India, after Nano.
