As most of you must be aware, Mahindra is going to soon introduce an all-new premium SUV in its product line-up in India. Showcased first at the 2018 Auto Expo, this SUV will essentially stand as the flagship product for the homegrown automaker in our country. It is based on the G4 SsangYong Rexton and replaces the other iteration of this vehicle. So far, we have been referring to it as the Y400, its codename. Meanwhile, there have been rumours about it being called as the XUV 700 or the Inferno. However, in the light of recent developments, it seems that Mahindra is going to call this new SUV as the Alturas.

Mahindra Alturas- India Launch
The Mahindra Alturas SUV is going to launch in India on the 24th of November this year, Earlier, the launch date was reportedly scheduled for the 19th of this month. However, due to unknown reason they postponed the launch of their new flagship product. The reason behind delaying the launch of the Alturas is likely because of the reason that Mahindra is waiting for first clear the existing stock current generation SsangYong Rexton.

Mahindra Alturas- Prices in India
As mentioned before, the Alturas is going to be the flagship product for Mahindra in India. It will find its place above the Mahindra XUV 500 in the automaker’s product line-up. Gong by our expectations, it is likely that Mahindra will keep the prices in-between INR 22 lakh to 27 lakh. With these prices, this SUV will compete against the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and Isuzu MU-X.

Mahindra Alturas- Engine Specifications
As far as we know, the Alturas is going to launch in India with a diesel engine across all its variants. This oil-burner in question will be a 2.2-litre, 4-cylinder unit. It will generate a power output of 185 BHP along with 420 Nm of peak torque. A 7-speed automatic gearbox, sourced from Mercedes Benz will be offered with this SUV. We are not sure if there is going to be a manual gearbox on offer or not.

In addition to the diesel engine, there could be a petrol motor also on offer. This is considering the fact that the competition also includes both petrol as well as diesel engines across their respective line-up. Though the details are not confirmed, we expect this petrol unit to be a 2.0-litre unit. The power output will stand close to 225 BHP while the torque figures will stand around 220 Nm. This too is going to come with an automatic gearbox as standard. A Manual gearbox could be on offer on lower variants.

Mahindra Alturas- Mileage
Owing to the fact that the vehicle in question is a full-sized SUV, do not expect high fuel-efficiency numbers. The diesel derivative is likely to offer a mileage figure of not more than 15 km/l. For petrol, this figure will stand close to 10 km/l.

Mahindra Alturas- Dimensions
The Mahindra Alturas is just a rebadged version of the G4 SsangYong Rexton. Hence, it matches the latter in all its measurements. This SUV is going to measure 4,850 mm in length, 1,960 mm in width and 1,800 mm in height. Its wheelbase will stand at 2,865 mm.

From what we know so far, the Mahindra Alturas is going to retail in India in a total of two variants. The base variant will be the G2 while the top-end variant will be the G4. The G2 variant is only going to offer 2WD mode. While the 4WD drive mode will be on offer in the G4 trim.

Mahindra Alturas- Exterior Design Review
From the outside, this SUV looks exactly like the SsangYong Rexton. The only major difference is, of course, the Mahindra badging. In addition to this, it will also come with Mahindra’s in-house grille design. Furthermore, the India-spec version is also going to sport an all-new alloy wheel design. Overall, this SUV looks very contemporary and stylish from the outside, despite being a full-sized SUV. It has a very dominating stance thanks to its large propositions.
Mahindra Alturas- Interior Design Review
So far Mahindra has not revealed the cabin layout of this SUV. However, if Mahindra decides to keep the same layout as that the international spec model then for sure the cabin of this SUV is going to be a very nice place to be in.
