Mahindra S201, upcoming compact SUV, will be named on 1st December. The SUV might be launched in India in the early months of 2019. Rumours say that it might be named as XUV300.
Mahindra‘s upcoming compact SUV is all set to launch in early 2019. It has been spied a couple of times and the recent photos suggest that the production version is almost ready. Finally, Mahindra is going to announce its name on December 1st.
Mahindra S201 is based on the Ssangyong Tivoli, that is available in other markets outside India. Rumours suggest that the compact SUV might be named as XUV300. Since both, S201 and XUV500 sit on a monocoque chassis, the chances are likely.
S201 will use the new 1.5 Litre diesel engine, that debuted in Marazzo. The engine produces 123 BHP and 240 Nm of peak torque. With this, it will be the most powerful SUV in its segment. There are rumours that it might get a new 1.2 Litre Turbo Petrol engine too.

The mileage figures of S201 will be around 20 kmpl. In the real-world conditions, it can fall down to anywhere around 15 kmpl.
For transmission purposes, it is most likely to use a 5-speed manual setup. Marazzo has yet not received an automatic unit, which we think, might be the case with Mahindra S201. It will use a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Mahindra S201 will be based on the higher end of its segment. Based on the spy pics, it gets many segment’s first and premium features onboard.

Feature list will include Projector headlamps with LED DRLs, Rear windshield wiper, Infotainment touchscreen unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Cruise Control, Electric Sunroof, Push-Button Start and Keyless entry.
Safety features onboard will include front dual airbags, ABS with EBD, Electronic Stability Program and Rear Parking sensors as standard fitment. Top-end variants might include 7-airbags and rear parking camera amongst the added safety features. Another segment first feature will include disc brakes on all four wheels.
Pricing of the SUV is expected to be the highest among its competitors. We expect the prices to start off at Rs 8 Lakhs, going up to Rs 12 Lakhs. Most of the other compact SUVs start off from as low as Rs 6.5-7 Lakhs.

Mahindra S201 will compete with the likes of Tata Nexon, Maruti Vitara Brezza and Ford EcoSport. It is most likely to compete with the mid-variants of Creta, because of a similar price range. Creta is priced starting at Rs 9.99 Lakhs.
