Mahindra Scorpio gets a new S9 variant in the lineup. It is among the high-end variants and sits just below the top-end S11 variant. Now, there are total 5 variants in entire Scorpio’s lineup.
Mahindra Scorpio S9 variant has been launched, which sits below the top-end S11 variant. Scorpio is one of the most successful Mahindra models. It comes with most of the features that are available in the top-end trim. The S9 variant comes at a price tag of Rs 13.99 Lakhs (ex-showroom prices). The variant will be available across all Mahindra dealerships starting today. Scorpio competes with the likes of Tata Safari Storme, Hyundai Creta and upcoming Tata Harrier.
Mahindra Scorpio S9 comes with static bending projector headlamps, 6-inch touchscreen infotainment, Voice assist system, Cruise Control, height adjustable driver seat and electric ORVMs. This variant skips out on shift-on-fly 4WD, which is optional in the top-end S11 variant.

For safety, the S9 variant comes equipped with Dual Front Airbags, ABS, Panic Brake Indication, Speed Alert, Reverse Parking Sensors, Reverse Parking Camera with Dynamic Assist and front fog lamps. Dual Front Airbags with ABS is standard in all other variants except the base S3 variant.
Mahindra Scoprio S9 comes does not get any mechanical changes. It comes with the mHawk 2.2 Litre diesel engine that puts out 140 BHP and 320 Nm of peak torque. The engine pairs up with a new 6-speed manual gearbox. The S5 and S7 variants come with the same engine but with a lesser power figure of 120 BHP. The base variant comes with a 2.5 Litre CRDI diesel engine, that puts out a mere 75 BHP.

Scorpio S9 variant also comes with the micro-hybrid technology, that comes with the idling system. In this system, if the engine is idle for 15 seconds, it automatically switches off. The engine can again be resumed with the press of the clutch or accelerator. This system helps in maintaining fuel efficiency.
For the front suspension, Scorpio uses Hydraulic Double Acting with Telescopic Shock Absorber. In the rear, the SUV uses Multi-Link Coil Spring Suspension with Anti-roll Bar suspension.
Mahindra Scorpio S9 variant comes in a 7-seater layout configuration. It gets a three seater bench in the second row and side-facing seats at the rear. There are 8-seater and 9-seater options as well.

The range of Mahindra Scorpio starts off at Rs 9.99 Lakhs and goes up to Rs 16.37 Lakhs (ex-showroom prices). It mainly competes with Hyundai Creta and Tata Safari Storme, which fall in a similar price range. Also, it will take on the upcoming Tata Harrier.
