After the debut of its all-new SUV Harrier in the month of January next year, Tata Motors has planned 14 other new model launches in India by the year 2022.
Though the details regarding these vehicles are not out yet and will be revealed closer to their individual launches, what we do know is that these vehicles will be based on the homegrown automaker’s two new platforms, the OMEGA and ALPHA.
Tata Motors is currently working on minimizing its existing multitude of platforms to just two. The soon to be launched Harrier is going to be the first vehicle to use the OMEGA platform.
Following this SUV, the automaker will launch a premium hatchback. That will effectively become its first product to use to the ALPHA platform.
With the reduction of the total number of platforms used across its portfolio, the automaker will be able to ensure better cost-effectiveness.

The OMEGA platform is derived using the D8 architecture from Land Rover. In addition to the Harrier, this platform is soon going to spawn four other new models.
In addition to the 7-seater iteration of the Harrier, the OMEGA will also underpin a sedan, a Coupe and a sub-four meter SUV.
With the launch of these new models, Tata Motors is looking to increase its market share in the Indian automobile industry. The company is aiming a share of 10 per cent in the next three-to-five years.

“It is not an exaggeration to say to that we are getting into a new phase. With the onset of Omega and Alpha architecture products, we would expand our addressable market and aspire for more volumes and market share. (It would) make the business cash accretive and self-sustainable,” said Guenter Butschek, MD of Tata Motors, told ET.
The launch of some impressive products like the Tiago and the Nexon has helped the automaker change its brand images to a certain extent. With youthful designs and feature loaded cabins, these vehicles have appealed to the masses and even to those who earlier used to shy away from Tata cars.
