In what could be taken as a big boost for safer cars in India, the homegrown automaker Tata Motor’s sub-compact SUV Nexon has been given an impressive 5-Star safety rating by Global NCAP.

With this, the Tata Nexon has effectively become the first vehicle made in India to get this highly coveted rating. The sub-compact SUV now stands with a 5-star safety rating in front adult occupant protection. And gets 3-stars for child occupant protection at the rear bench.

To put things in perspective, the Nexon had scored 4-stars in a test conducted by Global NCAP several months back. Subsequently, Tata Motors improved certain safety features like making the seat belt reminder for both driver and passenger as standard across all its variants.

The Tata Nexon already comes as standard with dual airbags, ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System), EBD (Electronic Brake Force Distribution) and ISOFIX child seat anchorage.

Another factor which helped the Nexon in Increasing its safety rating from four to five was the conduction of side impact test. In this, the vehicle met the UN95 side-impact protection requirements.

In addition to conducting a test on the Nexon, the Global NCAP also crash tested the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. The later which is, in fact, the direct competitor of the former and sells in multitudes.

The Vitara Brezza, in comparison to the Nexon, scored 4-stars in adult occupant protection. While its scored 2-stars for child occupant protection.

The Tata Nexon has been on sale in India for more than a year now. This compact SUV from Tata Motors manages to seel close to 5,000 units a month in our country.

It currently retails in-between the price range of INR 9.69 lakh to INR 10.67 lakhs. It comes with both petrol as well as diesel engine iterations. And it is offered in both a manual as well as an automatic version.
