McLaren has teased an image of the new 600LT Spider, the fifth supercar from the Woking brand to bear the Longtail name. The latest LT will follow on from the McLaren F1 Longtail, and more recently the 675LT Coupe and Spider, plus the 600LT Coupe which made its debut at the 2018 Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Just the one image has been revealed so far: a shot of the rear end of the car, showing the large wing and top-exit exhausts. Ahead of the tailpipes, there's a shutline in the engine deck which confirms that this will be a roofless variant of the Coupe.

Like the Coupe, the 600LT Spider will share its chassis and most of its bodywork with the 570S from McLaren's Sports Series range. However, a more aggressive front splitter, rear diffuser, and that rear wing should result in roughly 100kg of extra downforce generated at 155mph.
To suit its more focused position in the McLaren family, the new model will gain uprated suspension, beefier brakes and stickier Pirelli Trofeo R tyres. A weight saving regimen from 570S to 600LT will likely include lighter seats, the removal of the glovebox and the option of lightweight front wings, which should contribute to a drop of roughly 85kg in total.
Thanks to its inherently rigid carbon tub, the 600LT does not need to compensate for the lack of a permanent roof with extra chassis bracing. As a result, the only additional mass comes from the electric folding mechanism, which will add roughly 46kg.
Engine stats are likely to be identical to the hard top version, which means the 600LT Spider will use a mid-mounted 3.8-litre turbocharged V8 with 592bhp and 620Nm of torque. Performance will be barely compromised, so expect a circa three-second 0-62mph time and a top speed in excess of 200mph.
Prices are yet to be confirmed, but McLaren has announced that the official reveal will take place in 16 January.
