At the launch of the KTM Duke 790, the company has confirmed that they would be launching the 790 Adventure variant in India in the next 9-12 months.
KTM finally launched the Duke 790 in India yesterday at a price of Rs. 8.64 lakhs, ex-showroom. The Duke 790 is now KTM’s new flagship motorcycle in India and it is the first parallel twin engine that we have seen from KTM in India. The 200, 250, and 390 all come with single cylinder engines. Now at the launch of the Duke 790, KTM also announced that they will launch the 790 Adventure in India in the next 9-12 months.
The 790 Adventure is essentially the off-road sibling of the Duke 790. And in that regard, it gets several modifications over the Duke 790. For starters, it gets a tall windscreen, raised handlebars for an easier riding position and mid-set foot pegs too. This being focused for off-roading, it gets longer travel suspension than the Duke 790. Although the setup is same, the Duke 790 gets 140 mm of suspension travel at the front and 150 mm at the rear. The 790 adventure gets 200 mm of suspension travel on both ends.
The KTM 790 Adventure also gets higher ground clearance of 233mm and a taller seat height at 850mm. That’s 48mm more ground clearance than the Duke and 25mm taller seat height. Further focusing on its off-roading abilities, the 790 Adventure gets 21-inch spoked wheels at the front and 18-inch spoked wheels at the rear in contrast to 17 inch wheels that the Duke 790 gets.
Although both the motorcycles will use the same engine, the 790 Adventure’s engine has been tuned to make 94PS of power and 88 Nm of torque. That’s 11PS less than that of the Duke 790 but the torque has been made available lower at 6,600rpm compared to the Duke’s 8,000rpm. This engine is currently BS-IV compliant and KTM is working to improve the emissions of this motorcycle, by which time the 799cc engine could be entirely replaced by a bigger 890cc engine.

In terms of electronic goodies, the KTM 790 Adventure is expected to be as well equipped as the Duke 790. And along with the regular riding modes available with the Duke 790, the 790 Adventure will also come with an ‘off-road’ mode which is meant to suit its purpose. KTM also sells an even hardcore variant called the 790 Adventure R which comes with more premium components.

Although KTM hasn’t said any word on the launch of the 790 Adventure R in India, we expect that too will eventually come to India. Nevertheless, when KTM launches the standard 790 Adventure in India, it is expected to cost about Rs 11.5 lakh (ex-showroom) and will rival the likes of the BMW 750GS and the Triumph Tiger 800 XRx in India.
