The new 2020 Honda City is all set to be unveiled globally in November and ahead of that, it has been spied testing in India in a production-near format.
Honda has started testing the new 2020 City in India as well as in the international markets. The latest spy shot shows that the sedan is in a production-near format but still under heavy camouflage. We can see the ready alloys and tail lights.
The new Honda City is all set to be unveiled globally next month, and in India, we will be getting it next year. There will be a lot of changes in the new version, especially under the hood. A new engine is coming on the City.
Here are some points about the new 2020 Honda City that we can surely expect onboard:
Expected Price
Honda City | |
Expected Price (ex-showroom) | Rs 9.99 Lakhs to Rs 14.5 Lakhs |
Currently, the prices of City start off at Rs 9.81 Lakhs going up to 14.05 Lakhs (Ex-showroom). All these changes are expected to increase the prices of City, by a good margin. If the new engine options are confirmed, it will be the second smart-hybrid sedan amongst its rivals of Maruti Ciaz, Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Vento, Skoda Rapid and Toyota Yaris.
Engine Specifications
Petrol | Turbo Petrol | Diesel | |
Engine | 1.5 Litre Petrol Engine | 1.0 Litre 3-cylinder BS-4/1.2 Litre 4-cylinder BS-6 | 1.5 Litre Diesel |
Power | 115 BHP/142 Nm | 110 BHP/150 Nm | 100 BHP/200 Nm |
Transmission options will include:
- Petrol – 5 Speed Manual/CVT Gearbox
- Turbo Petrol – 5-speed Manual
- Diesel – 6-speed Manual/CVT Gearbox
Under the hood, the new 2020 Honda City will get the BS-6 versions of the 1.5 Litre petrol and the 1.5 Litre diesel engines, along with a 1.0 Litre turbo-petrol engine. Looks like a turbo-petrol engine is a new trend among automakers.
The 1.0 Litre turbo petrol is expected to pump out nearly 110 BHP worth of power. The 1.5 Litre petrol engine will come with a small electric motor, making the upcoming sedan a hybrid car. That remains unknown if it will be a mild-hybrid like the Ciaz or not. After trying the same with Amaze, Honda is going to add the CVT gearbox on the diesel variant of City. With all of these changes, there will be some changes in the power figures as well. These will include all the mechanical changes on the City.
Dimensions
Length | 4440mm |
Width | 1730mm |
Height | 1495mm |
Ground Clearance | 165mm |
Wheelbase | 2630mm |
The new Honda Jazz that will be unveiled at the Tokyo Auto Show this month, will give the platform to the new Honda City. So, we expect the length to remain the same, but the new City will be wider by around 30mm and will also get a longer wheelbase.
Reports suggest that the new 2020 Honda City will offer better legroom space than the outgoing version. The dimensions might be slightly altered, but this is just a speculation. The City sedan is one of the most spacious cars in its segment.
Features
The current generation Honda City is well equipped in terms of features. These are the following features that we expect on the new version:
- Refreshed Touchscreen Infotainment System With Android Auto/Apple CarPlay
- Fully Digital Instrument Console
- Front Parking Sensors
- LED Projector Headlamps
- New Alloy Wheels
- Ventilated Seats
- Electric Driver Seat Adjustment
Safety Features
We expect no changes in terms of safety features which already include:
- Six Airbags
- ABS with EBD
- ISOFIX
- Day/night IRVMs
- High-Speed Alert
- Rear Parking Sensors
- Rear Parking Camera
- Speed Sensing Auto Door Lock
Styling
Going by the spy shots, we the front and rear bumper seem to be slightly tweaked. The alloy wheels remain the same, but even the taillights receive some refreshment. Inside the cabin, there will be some minor revisions as well, like new dashboard colours and revised upholstery.
