Contrary to Expectations, Kawasaki Ninja 300 Will be Available in BS-VI Era!

It was thought that the Kawasaki Ninja 300 would be axed in the BS-VI era but now sources close to the company have confirmed it will continue to be on sale.

The Kawasaki Ninja 300 is one of the most popular Kawasaki models in India and even though Kawasaki has discontinued the motorcycle in major markets like Europe and America, they continue to sell it here in India. However, with the BS-VI norms coming up in April 2020, it was thought that the Kawasaki Ninja 300 would finally see its demise here in India as well.

However, that does not seem to the case. Sources within the company have have revealed that Kawasaki is working towards making the Ninja 300 BS-VI compliant so that they can continue selling it post April, 2020. Apart from making it BS-VI compliant, any other change is not expected on the motorcycle.

However, Kawasaki hasn’t revealed any timeline as to when the updated motorcycle will be launched but we can tell you it wouldn’t be anytime before the April 2020 deadline. Kawasaki is only expected to introduce the Ninja 300 BS-VI sometime later in 2020. The current Ninja 300 is priced at Rs 2.98 lakh (ex-showroom India), a bargain which was achieved due to heavy localisation back in 2018.

With the BS-VI update, the new Ninja 300 might retail at something around Rs. 3.2 lakhs (ex-showroom). However, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Kawasaki does not increase the price at all as they wouldn’t want to fiddle with the value proposition of this motorcycle. The Ninja 300 was the cheapest parallel-twin cylinder motorcycle you could buy in the country back then, until obviously the Royal Enfield 650 twins arrived.

As far as the powertrain is concerned, the current BS4-compliant 296cc parallel-twin liquid-cooled engine makes 39PS at 11,000rpm and 27Nm at 10,000rpm. And like we have seen a minor power drop with other motorcycles with the BS-VI update, expect the Ninja 300 to take a hit on that front as well in the name of cleaner emissions.
