The Raize is a new sub-4m SUV from Toyota and it shares its underpinnings with the Daihatsu Rocky that was unveiled at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show!
We have already reported that Toyota has been working on a new sub-4m SUV. Now, the very first images of Toyota’s sub-4m SUV which they are calling the Raize has surfaced on the internet. The Toyota Raize is scheduled for its global debut on November 5 in Japan but here’s a preview of what’s it going to be like.
The new Toyota Raize is based on the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA), a low-cost derivative of Toyota’s TNGA platform that underpins most of the brand’s new vehicle range. In fact, the Raize shares its underpinnings with the Daihatsu Rocky that was unveiled at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show just last week.
In terms of dimensions, the Raize will measures 3995 mm in length, 1620 mm in width and 1695 mm in height. The wheelbase stands at 2525 mm. In fact, the Raize and the Rocky are identical in dimensions and it seems similar in its overall silhouette as well. But Toyota has given the Raize its own design language and it looks quite the part from the Rocky.
The face of the Raize is very Toyota like – seen on other bigger global SUVs – with a large trapezoidal lower grille flanked by LED DRLs and fog lamps on either side. The headlamp units get LED DRLs and are connected by a gloss black finished bar in the middle that houses the Toyota logo. The SUV gets minimal chrome treatment – unlike other Toyota’s – and instead gets some body cladding all around which gives this compact SUV its rugged appeal. The leaked image also hints that the SUV will come with a dual-tone paint scheme, wrap around LED tail lamps and 17-inch alloy wheels.

Although Toyota has not shared any images of the interiors of the car, we expect the dashboard layout to be pretty similar to the one seen on the Daihatsu Rocky. This includes an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, brushed aluminium air-con vents, three-spoke steering wheel and an all-black treatment.

As for what will be under the hood, the Raize will be powered by a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine that will churn out about 96 bhp and 140 Nm of peak torque for the Japanese market. Transmission options include a CVT and a 6-speed manual gearbox, while four-wheel drive will be offered as optional on the SUV. In India however, Toyota will be bringing a re-badged version of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and we would be happy to see some design inspiration being drawn from the Raize instead of just a new badge.
