The micro SUV, Maruti S-Presso beat the popular Renault Kwid in its segment.
Maruti marked its entry into the micro SUV segment with the S-Presso last month and the hatchback has already gotten popular. Such is the result that, Maruti Suzuki S-Presso beat the popular Renault Kwid in September sales.
Maruti Suzuki S-Presso sales for September stood at 5,006 units whereas the Renault Kwid sold only 2,995 units. Mind you, before the launch of S-Presso, it was the Kwid which gained most of the attention in this segment.
Interestingly, Renault also launched a facelift version of the Kwid, a day after the launch of S-Presso. It gets cosmetic changes on the exteriors, interiors and receive a larger touchscreen infotainment system. We don’t know about the current dispatch numbers of the new Kwid and it’ll be good to observe to see these two cars picking against each other for Oct’19.

The table above shows the sales chart of all the entry level hatchback which falls under Rs 4 lakh budget segment. The top three positions are acquired by the Maruti Suzuki cars. The fourth in line is the Hyundai Santro which is got around 3502 units. It is available in a sole petrol engine with CNG as an alternative fuel.
Tata Tiago registered 3068 sales for Sept’19 and saw an increase of 1% in MoM sales. However, the entry level hatchback suffered a total of 63% loss when we compare the sales of Sept’19 with Sept’18. It sold about 8377 units in Sept’18.
Now, talking about the debutant S-Presso then it sits above the Alto K10 and packs the same engine like the K10 and WagonR 1.0L. The naturally aspirated BS6 Compliant, 1.0-litre, three cylinder engine produces 68 bhp along with 90 Nm of peak torque. It gets a 5-speed manual transmission along and an AMT gearbox.

The Maruti S Presso features a tall upright design with U-shaped grille, raked windshield and many say its a fusion of Maruti Vitara Brezza and Alto K10. The LED Daytime Running Lights are placed on the front bumper and the rear profile gets pronounced body claddings.
The interiors of the Maruti S-Presso especially the dashboard design borrows the inspiration from the Mini. The circular motifs and instrument cluster are located in the centre of the dashboard.
Features onboard the S Presso includes remote keyless entry, 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Safety features include driver side airbags, ABS with EBD and reverse parking sensors.
The price of Maruti Suzuki S-Presso starts at Rs 3.69 lakh for the base trim and goes up to Rs 4.91 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the top model. The ARAI certified fuel economy stands at 21.4 km/l for the manual counterpart and 21.7 km/l for the AMT gearbox.
