In the latest NCAP crash test for India, the new Maruti WagonR has scored two stars in adult as well as child occupancy.
As a part of the #SaferCarsForIndia campaign, the NCAP crash test results of the new 2019 Maruti WagonR have been revealed. The hatchback has received a low two-star safety rating, which is a thing to worry about.
The crash test of the new Maruti WagonR declares the bodyshell as unstable. The test was carried out on the base-spec 1.0 Litre LXi variant, which only comes with driver’s side airbag as standard fitment. Dual-airbags come as standard from LXi(O) variants.
The main thing is that the new WagonR comes with a faulty child restraint system. For child occupancy, the hatchback scores just 6.93 points out of 17. In the crash, the head of a 3-year-old child hit on the front chest, while for an 18-month-old, the chest area remains vulnerable.

For adults, the head protection is good and for the chest area of both the driver and passenger, remains weak. That is also because Maruti only offers a single driver-side airbag as standard, as per the Indian safety norms.
Its just not the WagonR, but a lot of other hatchbacks come only with a driver-side airbag. In the WagonR, you can just pay a small fee of around Rs 8,000-10,000 and get more safety with the passenger airbags.
Other safety features on the Maruti WagonR include rear parking sensors, ABS with EBD, speed alert system, speed alert sensors and you can also opt for a rear parking camera as an accessory.

The prices of WagonR start off at Rs 4.34 Lakhs going up to Rs 5.91 Lakhs (ex-showroom).
