The next-gen Hyundai Xcent will borrow a lot of exterior and interior styling elements from the Grand i10 Nios and will get BS-VI versions of the current engines.
After the launch of the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios earlier this year, we all knew that the Xcent sedan too will receive its first big update. In fact, this is the first time that the Hyundai Xcent will see a generation change after it was introduced in 2014. We have already seen several spy shots of the new Xcent being tested on our roads and it will most likely see its debut at the 2020 Auto Expo. So here’s everything we know about the next-gen Hyundai Xcent as of yet.
Exterior Design
The next-gen Hyundai Xcent’s design, as seen from the spy shots, appears to more of a evolution of the current sedan’s design. It retains the overall silhouette or basic profile but the changes will be more in the details. In fact, the look of the new Xcent is expected to be much similar to the Grand i10 Nios. It is expected to get a bigger cascading front grille with honeycomb inserts, sharper projector headlamps, angular housing for the fog lamps in the bumpers and LED taillamps. Also, the positioning of the license plate is expected to go down to the bumper instead of the current boot mounted license plate.
Interior Design
This is where the next-gen Xcent will bear even more similarities with the Grand i10 Nios. We have seen some interior spy shots of the new Xcent and while they came heavily camouflaged, we can still figure out that the interiors have large resemblance with that of the Nios. That has also been true about the current-gen model. The new dashboard layout as seen in the Nios, the steering wheel and the turbine-like vents are expected to be carried forward from its hatchback sibling. It could also see the addition of leather upholstery and adjustable head restraints for the rear bench.
Features
Like all other Hyundai’s, the Xcent is expected to be very well equipped in terms of features. There will be a larger infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Also, expect Blue Link connected car technology from the Hyundai Venue to come with the new car as well. Other notable features could include a digital speedometer with MID, voice recognition, wireless phone charger, auto AC, keyless entry, tilt steering, rear AC vents. However, it remains to be seen if there will be cruise control on offer like in the Hyundai Venue.

Powertrain Options
The new Hyundai Xcent will continue with its current 1.2 liter petrol and diesel engines but the engines will receive a host of updates to make them BS-VI compliant. Currently, the petrol engine produces 83PS and 114Nm of torque, while the diesel engine develops 75PS and 190Nm of torque. Both the engines will have the option of the 5-speed manual gearbox but 4-speed torque converter automatic with the petrol engine might be ditched in favour of the 5-speed AMT from the Santro. That’s in the name of cost efficiency.

Price and Rivals
The current-gen Xcent is priced from Rs 5.81 lakh to Rs 8.75 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The new Xcent will certainly command a premium over the current price on account of the BS-VI engines and added features. Once launched in India, the Xcent sedan will rival the likes of the Ford Aspire, Maruti Suzuki Dzire and Honda Amaze.
