The Toyota Rise is a brand new sub-4m compact SUV from the Japanese carmaker unveiling next month but there’s no news of it coming to India yet.
We had earlier reported that Toyota is working on a sub-4m SUV. Now, the Japanese carmaker is set to unveil this new compact SUV next month and they christened it as the Toyota Rise. Toyota’s sister brand, Daihatsu will also be selling a badge-engineered version of the very same car, calling it the Rocky. Both these SUVs are expected to be new ‘global SUVs’ for the Japanese carmaker and will be sold in multiple markets.
The Toyota Rise is essentially a production version of the Daihatsu DN Trec concept showcased in 2017. The Toyota Rise and Daihatsu Rocky being sister cars will certainly share a lot of interior and exterior components but they both will receive individual designing as per the brand’s own design language. The SUVs are expected to get rugged design elements and substantial ground clearance for a distinctive SUV look.
Underpinning both the SUVs will be Toyota-Daihatsu’s new DNGA modular platform specially designed for emerging markets. Under the hood, the SUVs will be powered by a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine, and there’ll be options of both two- and four-wheel-drive. Dimensionally, both the Toyota Rise and theb Daihatsu Rocky are expected to be similar to the concept at 3.98 meters.

That’s right in the sweet spot of the compact SUV segment in India where the Hyundai Venue, the Mahindra XUV300 and Ford Ecosport, all have similar lengths. The size and engine options make the Toyota Rise a brilliant product for India but there is no news as of yet if this SUV will make it to our shores.

In India, Toyota has a strategic alliance with Maruti Suzuki, under which we will see a slew of rebadged products from Toyota. The first of that is the Toyota Glanza which was launched in the country in the month of June. Other rebadged products in the pipeline for Toyota in India are reworked versions of the Vitara Brezza compact SUV, Ciaz midsize sedan and Ertiga MPV. Meanwhile, the Toyota Rise and the Daihatsu Rocky will see their global unveil in Japan, sometime next month.
