The 2 Series Gran Coupe will rival the Audi A3 and Mercedes CLA. The Indian market is expected to receive a 2.0L diesel motor
Recently BMW unveiled the 2020 2 Series Gran Coupe which is expected to reach India by 2020-21. And this particular sedan will fill the gap between the 1 series and the 3 series.
If launched in India, the 2020 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe will rival with the likes of Audi A3 and Mercedes CLA. And this gap wasn’t filled for long until now. So the loyal beemers can express their sheer of joy to own a sedan which is more affordable than a 3 series.
Unlike the coupe version which uses a rear-wheel drive platform, the Gran Coupe will have a front-wheel drive. It will be based on the FAAR architecture which is the same as the 1 series.

The design of the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe will follow the same enlarged kidney signature grille and the top of the line trim that is M235i gets a mesh grille. The lower models get horizontal slats.
At the rear, the number plate is now lowered so used sharp horizontal line to make aesthetically make it look wider. It gets a 430-litre boot space and the car will be offered in multiple wheel sizes ranging from 16-19 inches.
Inside, the cabin follows the same design scheme as found in the 1 series with the digital instrumentation cluster. It also gets an optional 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with a 9.2-inch HUD.
A total of three variants of the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe are on the offer in the European markets. The starting 218i gets a 1.5-litre petrol unit and it churns out a total of 140 bhp with a peak torque of 220 Nm. Transmission option sticks to a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed automatic gearbox.

The 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel motor which comes with the 220d trim offers 190 bhp with 400 Nm of torque. It offers a 8-speed automatic gearbox. A manual transmission is not offered in this trim.
The most powerful of the lot, the M235i xDrive trim get all-wheel drive. Under the hood, it gets a 2.0-litre, four cylinder, twin turbocharged petrol engine which makes a whopping 306 bhp on tap with 450 Nm of peak torque. It can do 0-100 km/h sprint in just 4.9 seconds with a top speed limited to 250 km/h. It also gets a 8-speed manual gearbox like in the diesel engine.
In the Indian market, we are expected to receive the 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel motor in either of the two trims – a 218d or a 220d. Both the motors are expected to produce 140 bhp and 190 bhp respectively. We can expect the price range to stick between Rs 35 lakh to Rs 43 lakh once it enters our shores.
