Yamaha R15 V3 BS-6 Engine Specifications Leaked; To Be Less Powerful

The BS-6 version of Yamaha R15 V3 is likely to be launched around late 2019, and the recently leaked document shows that the power figures will be lesser.

Yamaha has cleared its stance on BS-6 vehicles, stating that the launches will commence by the end of 2019. We expect that the testing is already in its final stages, but ahead of that, the documents of the Yamaha R15 V3 BS-6 have been leaked.

It will continue with the same 155cc liquid-cooled DOHC engine with VVA technology. However, the leaked documents show that the Yamaha R15 V3 BS-6 will produce 18.36 BHP now. That’s nearly 1 BHP down from the BS-4 version, which produces 19.3 BHP.

As for the MT-15, it will get the same engine with a similar drop in the power figures. In its current state, the naked streetfighter produces 19.1 BHP, slightly lower than the R15. That’s because of the aerodynamics of the R15 aids in a better top speed.

As said, we expect the BS-6 Yamaha R15 V3 to be launched in December 2019 or January 2020. Going by the statement of Yamaha, all the motorcycles will be launched in a phased manner. However, not all models of Yamaha are going to be updated with BS-6 engine.

Other than the engine update, there will be no further changes of the BS-6 R15 V3. Yamaha might introduce some new colour options for the same. Earlier, there were reports of Yamaha working on a Bluetooth-speedometer, which could also come onboard.

Yamaha SZ-RR, R15 S and the Fazer 155 have apparently been discontinued in India. All three of them have missed out on the ABS update and will also miss out on BS-6 engines because they have not been Yamaha’s good selling models.

As for new models, Yamaha is planning a couple of premium motorcycles in India, right from 155cc bikes. We can expect the Yamaha MT-03 soon and the retro cafe-racer XSR155 in India in a short period of time. The automaker is also working on introducing a 150cc scooter for the Indian market.
