The Kia Carnival will be launched in India in January 2020 and it will come to the country via the CKD route with an expected price of above Rs 30 lakhs.
Kia Motors teased us with a video of the Carnival MPV a couple of days ago and now we have spotted the car uncamouflaged in India, revealing all its design elements. The Carnival is going to be Kia’s second product in India and it will be positioned as a premium MPV meant to be a direct rival to the Toyota Innova Crysta. Kia is expected to launch the Carnival in India sometime in January 2020. The Carnival has already been on sale in the international market for some time now but for India, the Carnival will get some India-specific styling and equipment tweaks.
The Carnival is surely a handsome looking MPV, The face gets the Kia signature ‘Tiger Nose’ grille flanked by LED headlamps on either side. The bumpers have aggressively designed air dams that also house Kia’s Ice Cube LED fog lamps. On the sides, there’s a sharp character line that flows through the profile of the car and it also gets smartly styled dual-tone alloy wheels. At the rear, the Carnival comes with split LED tail lamps while a thin chrome strip is present above the number plate housing for added bling.
The dashboard which will feature a wide touchscreen infotainment display, chrome detailing, and an overall premium-looking design. Being positioned as a premium MPV, the Kia Carnival is absolutely loaded with tons of other features as well. That includes Kia’s UVO connectivity suite, two sunroofs, three-zone climate control, a power adjustable driver’s seat with memory function, power sliding rear doors and a bevy of safety tech coming as standard on higher variants.
The Carnival will come three rows of seats with either 6-, 7- or 8-seat configurations. The second row also gets captain seats with extendable leg rests and armrests in certain seat configurations. The India-spec Seltos will also get display screens mounted to the headrest of the two front seats which we are expecting to be part of a accessory package along with some other features.
The Carnival’s size is another factor which will really position itself as premium MPV. Its intended to directly take on the Toyota Innova Crysta but it already seems to be a step ahead in every department. The international-spec Carnival measures 5,115mm in length, 1,985mm in width and 1,740mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 3,060mm. That makes it 380 mm longer, 154 mm wider, and has a 311 mm longer wheelbase than the Innova Crysta.

The Kia Carnival will be powered by a 0BS6-compliant, 2.2-litre, four-cylinder, turbo-diesel engine producing 202hp and 441Nm of torque. Output will be sent to the front wheels via a 6-speed automatic gearbox, though a 6-speed manual is also on offer in international markets.

The Kia Carnival will be brought to the country via the CKD route and assembled at Kia’s facilities in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh. We expect it to cost about Rs. 30 lakhs, ex-showroom and Kia does not expect to push numbers with the Carnival. What it will do is position Kia as a premium car manufacturer in India. Also, it will be a viable upgrade from the Toyota Innova Crysta while not being as pricey as the Mercedes V-class and Toyota Vellfire.
