We expect the Tata Altroz EV to go on sale by the end of 2020 in India. When launched, expect it to be priced from Rs 14 lakh (ex-showroom India).
Some time ago, reported you with the first spy shot of the Tata Altroz EV. While that image only showed the rear profile of the car, we now have another spy shot which reveals a little more about this upcoming EV. The Tata Altroz has already garnered very positive attention for itself and the EV builds on the same. Let’s look at it in a little more detail.
From this new spy shot, the side profile of the Altroz EV is now visible. As was true with the rear profile of the Altroz EV, the side profile of the car also remains identical to the standard Altroz. It still gets the C-Pillar mounted rear door handles and the alloy wheel designs are also the same but they do not get the dual-tone finish as the standard Altroz. That might be perhaps because this is mid-spec variant.
As was seen in the previous spy shot, the rear end of the Altroz EV appears identical to the standard Altroz. There are split LED tail lamps connected by a black plastic trim. The final production model is however expected to have a different front end with revised bumpers and grille. It will also get a different set of dual-tone alloys wheels to distinguish it from its ICE counterpart.
Tata Motors first showcased a concept of the Altroz EV at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. We expect a close-to-production version to be revealed at Auto Expo 2020. As we had reported earlier, the Altroz EV will be powered by the new Ziptron powertrain. It will also do its duty in the Nexon EV as well. The Ziptron powertrain utilises a permanent magnet AC motor that draws power from an IP67-rated dust and water-proof battery pack. Tata Motors claims that it will offer a real world driving range of 300km on a single charge. The Altroz EV is also based on the ALFA Arc (Agile, Light, Flexible and Advanced) platform, just as the regular Altroz.

And that’s no bad thing as the Altroz boasts of a very smart cabin which has been really well put together. It will also come loaded with plenty of features such as connected car technology, a 7-inch infotainment system, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a Harman sound system, a coloured multi-info display, cruise control, auto headlamps and wipers as well as ambient lighting. For safety, it will have features like dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, rearview camera, high-speed alert and driver and co-driver seatbelt warning.

But we will surely have the Nexon EV already by then to understand Tata’s new Ziptron powertrain. Meanwhile, Tata has announced that they will officially launch the standard Altroz in India on January 22, 2020. It’s expected to be priced from Rs 5.5 lakh to Rs 8.5 lakh (ex-showroom).
