Jeep has confirmed that it is going to bring its smallest SUV to India by 2021, which will complete the gap that Maruti Gypsy left in the market.
Jeep India has a couple of SUVs planned for India in the coming years. Going by its earlier plans, the 7-seater Compass and the Renegade SUV were supposed to arrive by 2021-22. Now, another SUV has been added to the list.
Renegade is a 4.2m long SUV, which will basically make it go against the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta and Nissan Kicks. The upcoming small SUV from Jeep will be a sub-4 metre model, the smallest one that it will offer.
In the sub-4 metre off-roading space, you have nothing now. Earlier, this space also included the Mahindra Thar and much more popular Maruti Suzuki Gypsy. Any day the latter has a bigger fan base in India. Due to its discontinuation, the most affordable off-roader title went to the Thar, which was again discontinued this year.

The new Jeep Small SUV is planned to enter the group of most affordable off-roaders. The group is empty right now, but it will be soon filled with two upcoming launches. Mahindra will be launching the new generation Thar at the 2020 Auto Expo, which will look completely different than the current generation.
Also, Maruti is reportedly bringing the Jimny SUV to India soon. The hot-looking small SUV has taken the global markets by a storm, where it was earlier facing a waiting period of up to a year. It will come to the Indian market between 2020-22 time period.
The upcoming Jeep Small SUV will be a pure-electric model. Jeep has decided to electrify its entire lineup, which includes the upcoming models as well as the existing models. This would not happen immediately, but by sometime in the near future.

Meanwhile, the Jeep Renegade might be the next one on the company’s India list. A couple of months ago, the SUV was spied testing under heavy camouflage. It will sit in the 10 Lakhs to Rs 16 Lakhs range.
