Kia Finally Teases the India Spec Carnival in a Video!

The Kia Carnival will be positioned as a more premium MPV than the Toyota Innova Crysta in India and we expect it to cost upwards of Rs. 30 lakhs.

We have already reported that Kia Motor’s next product for India would be the Carnival premium MPV. Now, Kia Motors have finally released the first teaser of the Carnival in India. Kia will most-likely showcase the model to its Indian dealers sometime next month and will announce pricing thereafter a few days later. The Carnival has already been on sale in the international market for some time now but for India, the Carnival will get some India-specific styling and equipment tweaks.

The teaser video features critically acclaimed actor Jim Sarbh and it offers a good sneak inside the cabin of the India-spec Carnival. The Carnival will come three rows of seats with either 6-, 7- or 8-seat configurations. The second row also gets captain seats with extendable leg rests and armrests in certain seat configurations. The TVC also reveals displays mounted to the headrest of the two front seats which we are expecting to be part of a accessory package along with some other features.

In the video, we also get a glimpse of the dashboard which will feature a wide touchscreen infotainment display, chrome detailing, and an overall premium-looking design. Being positioned as a premium MPV, the Kia Carnival is absolutely loaded with tons of other features as well. That includes Kia’s UVO connectivity suite, two sunroofs, three-zone climate control, a power adjustable driver’s seat with memory function, power sliding rear doors and a bevy of safety tech coming as standard on higher variants.

The Carnival’s size is another factor which will really position itself as premium MPV. Its intended to directly take on the Toyota Innova Crysta but it already seems to be a step ahead in every department. The international-spec Carnival measures 5,115mm in length, 1,985mm in width and 1,740mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 3,060mm. That makes it 380 mm longer, 154 mm wider, and has a 311 mm longer wheelbase than the Innova Crysta.

The Kia Carnival will be powered by a 0BS6-compliant, 2.2-litre, four-cylinder, turbo-diesel engine producing 202hp and 441Nm of torque. Output will be sent to the front wheels via a 6-speed automatic gearbox, though a 6-speed manual is also on offer in international markets.

The Kia Carnival will be brought to the country via the CKD route and assembled at Kia’s facilities in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh. We expect it to cost about Rs. 30 lakhs, ex-showroom and Kia does not expect to push numbers with the Carnival. What it will do is position Kia as a premium car manufacturer in India. Also, it will be a viable upgrade from the Toyota Innova Crysta while not being as pricey as the Mercedes V-class and Toyota Vellfire.
